Thanks to Rob @ W8 Performance!

Featured Replies

So i left my house at half 7 this eve and i have just got in!! This is because i could not stop driving my car lol

Robs a nice bloke and remaped my car very professionally and gave great advice. only took about half hour!! It was a chuck up between revo and Shark and im so glad i went shark! My car pulls like a train im still grinning! Love it!

Again, thanks to rob for his services, i would recommend him to everyone!

Cheers Group1rs for hooking me up with rob in the first place and for the beer tonight.

Not trying to get at Shark as I've driven Petes car and I know its good but did they not put the car on a dyno before and after to check everythings ok? Did he just stick the map on?

Sharks maps are very good I love mine.

He checked it all over first visually under the bonnet and with all his gizmos. Scanned it for faults before and after. This and my brand new recalled coil packs today the car is transformed.

Get that FMIC fitted it'll be even better, you can drive it all evening and it won't lose power!

i was actually impressed. i been popping about for a good 2 hours and the car did not miss a beat.

yeh i cant wait to get that FMIC on. got to get a few more bits before that can go on. Compbrake DV next as well.

Glad you are pleased Gee. Plenty more beers in the pipe for you !

lol Pete.. we will see dude.. we will see!

shark maps have come along way and are looking very good but imo no rolling road for before and after runs etc not good!!!

for that money i would be expecting a rr print out to see the change. to ensure the boost afr etc are all good

did he atleast do some logging before and after????

p.s any idea's on power torque or is it just feels better lol

p.s.s you say it took 30 mins is that with all the checks??? wow thats quick for a remap and diagnostic checks etc

this isnt to have a pop at anyone but imo i would rather travel to shark hq or other places where they have a rolling road etc etc to ensur ethe car is 100% first and 110% after

Cheers Gee. Nice to meet you too and glad you are pleased.

Why do people get so hung up on rolling roads? The 1.8T engine suffers horrendously from heat soak so wouldn't really be that much help putting it on rollers for ages.

I read off the ecu as soon as Graham arrived called Mikko as soon as I had sent the file through and he got to work it straight away, hence it being done so quickly, it is usually done within the hour as I am a mobile dealer.

This then gave me time to check over Gees car in the meantime.

All the maps I do are done by Shark HQ, I just offer the service without people having to travel.

The proof is in the bum dyno and I think Gee was happy from the text I got ;)

Okay so you just plug and play

What you say about dyno,s is rubbish the reason you put it on the rollers is mo?e to ensure afr boost etc are good

Each ?ar is different so all your doing is putting a generic map on !!!

P.s as a tuner i would expect you to realise the importance of logging or using a rr for this?? As anyone can plug a laptop in but nót many understand why !!!!!

The stage 1 remap is a dyno tested map done by Shark on their rollers.

Yes, I am plugging it in and uploading the file. I'm not pretending to be doing anything different.

Sorry you are so angry. Do you need a hug?

I wouldn't blame the tuners, its up to the customer to choose whether they want a RR (and in that case go to Shark HQ or get a map from a tuner that has a RR). If all you care about is that it feels quicker then fair enough, jobs a good'un. I know I would be keen to have logs to show exactly what its doing before and after the map but thats just me being fussy!

oh im not angry buddy i was just trying to understand how you do it!

but yes can i have a hug???

i know what your saying and i agree it is a good map now after alot of hard work and but what i dont agree with is the fact that every car is different and reacts different to maps so with that in mind would it not make sense just to run some on road logging to make sure its spot on and any issues mikko can adjust where needed ???

At Stage 1 level this really isn't an issue - that's the point of a Stage 1 map, a good safe increase in power. Beyond that sometimes needs a little more intervention but I'm sure you understand how a dealer network works for every tuning company, and it's not fair to say that every car is automatically going to have a problem that needs hours of logging and dyno runs just for it to run properly at Stage 1.

ok... where my hug??

:giggle:

Let's put this to bed now. Realistically with a stage one map we are only adding about 25 BHP to the 1.8t platform. This is a tried and tested map that Shark have spent many hours perfecting on the rollers. When cars come off of the production line they all have the same ECU and software that was produced and tested at development. You wouldn't expect every production car to spent time being rolling road tuned before delivery. They just work simple. It's down to the customer to ensure that his/her car is in the best condition/health before any tuning work is carried out. Of which Shark/W8 can only advise. I would not reccomend Shark/W8 if I was not 100 percent sure of their capabilities. The proof is in the pudding as all the people that I have reccomended so far will I'm sure agree. Well done to Rob at W8 and to all at Shark. Keep up the good work.

Glad you are happy bud, it makes a big difference.

To add my 2p worth to the RR debate, when I had my car mapped I had it on the rolling road before and after, the benefits were that they were able to diagnose a MAF that was not 100%, also the N75 was faulty, and the fuel filter needed changing. None of this would have been found out unless they had dyno'd it. You could run some logs, but you can't really get the same info as you would from a dyno unless you are happy to put your license on the line. They weren't fishing for work either before anyone says.

i agree i wasnt saying every car will have a problem but some will and with a simple logging session should help thats all

keep up the good work guys just adding some input hope thats cool

w8 where my hug ;-)

can i just chirp in here and say that my car was used as a guineapig  for the stage 1 map recently to fix the slight boost surge that becomes noticeable once you map it. My car spent a good few hours on the dyno and as far as i know the data gained has helped tweak the stage 1 map :p

lex every car will react in a different way imo

weak actuators

weak fuel pump

dirty fuel filter

failing maf

failing n75

get my drift lol

note to self. Stick to thanking people via text message.

sorry

When my car went on sharks rr, the engine was already worm, then they had to calibrate the car to the rollers, car getting hotter. Finally the run.

First run 205bhp second run straight after was 186bhp. That's how much these cars suffer from heat soak.
