My HRW doesnt seem to be working either.

Warranty gone 5 months. Typical.

Samster did you solve it.

Visit to the dealer me thinks...

Get your car scanned with VCDS, the central electronics module can detect if the heater element is open or short. I'm not sure, but there may even be a measuring block for heater current.

If you don't have access to VCDS, put your ammeter in series with the fuse and turn the heater on. You should see significant current (probably more than 10 amps so use a decent meter). If current is tiny, your element has failed.

Yep - two fat resistors in there, dealer sorted it under warranty - sure they said it's a £60 fix (gulp)

Samster 2 resistors in were.

Just in case the garage tells me something bigger needs to be replaced.

Im dreading replacing the back window...

It might have to accoidentally get a stone chip...

Behind all the plastics covering the twin door mechanism. I didn't take it off, left it to the dealer. They can test the element easily, but they don't fail these days

If you get the relay type click on pressing the button then it'll be a resistor I believe

Thanks for the reply Samster...

Will make a trip to the dealer...

Well Samster was at the dealer today and it was a waste of time...

I told them about the probable resistor issue.

They said OK.

When I called back they sais they had no luck and assume its a cable issue.

I asked what they checked and was told they connected the computer and nothing showed up.

Then they checked if there was any voltage at the element and their wasnt.

I mentioned the resistors but he didnt understand.

They advised booking it in again while he went through the wiring looms and mentioned that there are several controllers involved that might be the issue.

I assumed that if a controller was at fault there would be an error code recorded.

All I see is a training exercise in diagnostics at my expense.

They advised 3-4 hours to investigate...

Samster, what dealer did you use...They might be able to advise me what to check...

Thanks for the reply Samster...

Will make a trip to the dealer...

Hi - I used Jewsons in Oxford. Straight away when I took it there and explained I could here a relay click when I pressed the button, the service manager mentioned large resistors. They had it for an hour, when I went back it was fixed

The 'resistors' are probaly 'inductors' used for filtering interference because the radio aerial is also in the screen. I know other cars do it this way, not sure about the Superb.

Rang Jewsons in Oxford and got through to the service lad.

Talk about being no help.

Youd swear he was a politician..

Loads of talk but no information,.

Basically told me to take a long walk off a short plank..

He said your garage should be able to check if there are any bulletins for my car based on the chasis number for the windscreen.

I said if that was the case why would I ring him...

Samster is that the right garage...The one that looks like somebodys house....
