Hybrid turbo owners, worth it?

Featured Replies

It ain't that bad, turn the stereo up or keep your foot on the clutch lol ;)

Joking aside I'm used to mine now, feels like the norm.

until you go out in one with a DMF again and then you will realise how horrible it is!!! :)

  • You can still get away with a DMF, but replacing it with the smf is a fit and forget then

  • My MD446 (Turbo Dynamics stage 2 PD130 hybrid) did 200bhp/330ftlb on Shark's rollers. And that was with a knackered DMF, now I've changed the clutch there might be a little bit more to find in there,

I've seen 5 dmf's part company from the crankshaft or break apart, not to mention the starter motors and gearboxes that have gone due to worn dmf's... I just don't like them lol. I have fitted plenty of solid flywheels to customers cars/vans and not had any problems, but none on the 6 speed tdi's yet.think I will put a solid in for peace of mind tho

I'm running the southbend "silent" smf so can't comment on the other brands but I'm really happy with mine.

There is some extra noise which is to be expected but really not bad at all. Where are you based Gary?

The 6 speed is bad for noise, due to it being a multi shaft box.

Just going to bump this thread up again but i'm currently looking at clutches as i'm in need of one soon and will be picking up a PD150 Hybrid Turbo soon. If i'm going to stick with 'Stage 2' and not move further up the power, can i stick with a DMF without too many hassles or would i be better off just getting a SMF in case i do decide to up the power in the future??

I'm also looking on EuroCarParts and it seems i can buy a Sachs clutch and DMF for £367.20, obviously unfitted. Does that sound about right as i was expecting about double that??

True, i just don't like the idea of having to listen to it all the time, even though i only drive about once or twice a fortnight, it's usually long journeys. :D

You won't notice it while your driving John. Mine's fine on all types of journey

My dog bone mount is worse than the flywheel. Which isn't really a problem at all

Just looking around at the clutch options and it looks like Helix is probably one of the best to go for. It looks like i can get the clutch and SMF from Awesome GTi for about £950.00. Shame they don't do finance though, as that's nearly a months wages, so may have to look at Demon-Tweeks or stick it on the credit card!! :peek:

Not seen demon tweeks list them tbh :(

Call BD performance. They were much cheaper than Awesome GTI and Mardi Gras for me, tell them I sent you :)

Did you get the turbo chatter on your hybrid Dan when you had the ram air filter?

I sure did, still do with the 1756 but it's much louder and sounds 100x better! Going to pick up an s2000 filter though :)

Any benefit of using the s2000 filter?

I heard Joel's over the weekend and it's very addictive :)

It's paper element as opposed to being oiled. And it's only like £15 from ECP :)

I've heard iiPauls, he has an s2000 filter on 1756 and still does chatter etc :)

I want more chatter :(
