  • You can still get away with a DMF, but replacing it with the smf is a fit and forget then

  • My MD446 (Turbo Dynamics stage 2 PD130 hybrid) did 200bhp/330ftlb on Shark's rollers. And that was with a knackered DMF, now I've changed the clutch there might be a little bit more to find in there,

  • Unit 18 provided the best price for mine bud. Worth giving them a try and Mardi Gras Motorsport too HTH

I've spent about £5000 on mine (don't tell the wife)

That makes two of us mate :D

Mums the word ;)

If anyone is local and wants to come out in mine gimme a shout

I would say so, absolutely.

For me, the hybrid route was chosen for strength and reliability. The extra ponies were a very pleasant bonus.

Some of the price and power quotes may be a touch optimistic on this thread, but in my opinion to enjoy it you ought to budget for:

Clutch- Sachs Organic with DMF will be more than capable, around £800 plus fitting (not sure on that one)

Turbo- Hybrid PD150 from Allard, Turbo Dynamics etc, around £950

FMIC- Forge, Seat Sport, Group Buy item on here, anything from £200-£700

Custom Mapping- Shark Performance, Unit 18 etc, around £400

The above prices are guides and are not quoted from any source, but in my experience it cost about £2650 for supply and fit of Hybrid PD150, Forge FMIC, Blueflame Catback Exhaust, Shark Performance Custom Map and a hose or two replaced. Luckily I already had the Sachs clutch installed. Cost will always vary with time and from company to company, but you oght to look at about £2k as a bare minimum, even if you can get great deals on some of the components.

That little lot saw me from a poorly mapped (previous owner's mod) 162bhp to a very smooth 206bhp, and it was better in every way.

If you have the luxury of time, keep an eye out for deals and you'll save yourself a few hundred quid.

Either that or keep your eye on the 'Cars For Sale' thread, as a fair few 200+bhp Fabias seem to be popping up at the moment.

Cheers for the replies guys, I'm hopefully being taken out in a hybrid fabia next weekend so that should deffo help me make up my mind. Speaking to techie last nite he recommended the hybridpd130 unit as he found in his experiences it was a cracker. Clarkey666, how was the allardvt2 turbo? not many people running these are there?

And strangely fuel economy increases when on cruise!

The car is so effortless to drive, yes a bit more lag, and under 1,500 revs, with a remapped standard turbo car you could use 4th quite nicely, but not with a hybrid.

Before hybrid turbo, why not do FMIC first (inlet temps just above ambient, and even when driven hard, not got higher than 8/10 degrees above ambient).

Then get clutch done.

If you did it step by step might be more palatable then spending £2-3k all in one go.

Trebormint, ive already got FMIC and sachs organic clutch, plus other mods such as 312mm brakes so i think next step for me is the hybrid turbo =p Im just unsure on what to get lol

The Allard VT2 is awesome. Handled the power effortlessly. I was recommended Allard as they race diesels.

Jason used to run one at around 220bhp for quite some time, then sold it to someone who runs it with 230bhp and has done for years.

I'd certainly recommend one, loved it when I had the car.

Pm'd.

Hi

I can vouch for Clarkey's remarks because I have just bought his car (Lashonda by name) and it is an awesome car.

I just cant stop smiling every time I drive her and make every excuse to go out for a spin - it is certainly a well built car that has been truly looked after by Clarkey.

I have just spent a good few hours cleaning her, although she did'nt really need it and you can tell how well she has been looked after.

  • After Luke took me for a spin in his I love the idea of going Hybrid. I wouldn't want massive power, possibly 200-210bhp with 350ftlbs(does that sound right??)
  • Would the Hybrid PD130 cope ok, or would I be best going for the 150?

My MD446 (Turbo Dynamics stage 2 PD130 hybrid) did 200bhp/330ftlb on Shark's rollers. And that was with a knackered DMF, now I've changed the clutch there might be a little bit more to find in there, I'm going to pop back when I have spare time and cash and see what else can come out of it.

Excellent, that's the kind of figures I'd like :-)

I'd rather go GTB1756VK for those numbers, you seem to get better driveability as well as the reliability of an original, unmolested OEM turbo and a potential upgrade path for the future

As yet there's not a cheap way of doing that though. At least, not a repeatable, reliable way. there's a build/project ongoing in the states on tdiclub to retrofit the GTB turbos (1756, 2260) to the MK4 platform using an OEM cast manifold. That won't work on RHD though as there's reduced clearance. And the Fabia platform is smaller again.

What we need is an OEM cast manifold with an adapter plate/wedge that allows easy fitment of the turbo. (I'd accept some grinding/porting requirement). Then you've just got the other three pipes to worry about. Exhaust manifol being the other "biggie".

EDIT: With the heat cycling, IMO, anything welded on the exhaust side is going to crack, quickly if done ****tily and over time if done well. It'll still crack though.

Another running a 446 here, crazy fast spool up, it's picks up through the revs so well. Pulls from 2 right to 4.5k+

Can't say I regret not getting a 376 anymore, expect 200-215bhp with a nice chunk of power all through the revs!

Whatever you get I'm sure you won't regret!

Only downside I suppose is the car is very 'eager' to go, all the time! Takes some very steady throttle and clutch through 1st and 2nd to keep it smooth in traffic and around town.

where did you get your turbo from Josh?

Turbo dynamics mate was around £1,000 md446 stage 2 pd130 hybrid

Its the £1,000 price tag that makes my heart sink lol
