Rear wheel bearing replacement

Recommended Posts

Hi Robbie

Is that rear hub removal and refit ?

chock wheels

remove drum or discs

remove dust cap from centre

unscrew hub nut, will need torque bar, recommended will need renewing

use a puller to pull hub/bearings from stub - care with ABS sensor ring

check everything for good order

lubricate suitably, drift the inner race on the stub, use a large socket if necessary using only the inner race

screw new nut on and torque

check or replace dust cap, tap carefully back into position

refit the rest

A Haynes style run down

With the help of a friend disconnect the battery

With the help of another friend or the same friend if they are still about jack the vehicle up and support on axle stands

The friend has now got bored so your on your own, remove the road wheel.

Unbolt brake carrier from rear axle, 2 x 8mm allen key bolts, slide caliper and carrier from disc. If a lip on the disc stops it coming off go straight to next step

Remove disc retaining screw and disc (if caliper could not be removed slide this off with the disc still attatched)

Your friend has returned, not with tea, send him back to kitchen.

Knock off centre cap and undo 30mm centre nut, withdraw hub unit. Replace hub unit and fit new nut. Tighten up nut to specified torque.

Refit all components in reverse of above.

Slap friend for taking so long with the tea.

seems easy enough, i was thinking it was a case of take it off and throw another on. Whats the torq setting for the center/hub nut?

From my post here........

Main 12 point hub nut = 70Nm (52lbf ft)+ 1/12 turn (30 deg). Always renew. This one doesn't need car to be on ground etc. like front one!!
