Panel wipe - anyone used it?

I need to remove the wax from a new car prior to applying Diamondbrite. I have been told 'panel wipe' is the thing to use. It seems, er, dirt cheap at just over

Well, nobody seems to have used this. What do you use to remove old wax? My dealer told me it comes off with car shampoo but, instinctively, I just don't feel that this will be effective enough.

Mine told me car polish. Does anyone actually know?

I think domestic washing up liquid does a good job at removing the wax. as does autoglym tar spot remover.

I used a bit of vinegar and water....

That went alright with the paintwork chips then?

And the salt off the road? :nol2:

It's back to me again and my old cures!!

Most modern waxes and polishes are "petroleum distillate based"

ergo: when you need to remove them you use PETROL

I've posted this before and people have larfed, taken the wotsit, or been mightly impressed!

I'll give you a little clue:

go to a local body shop and ask what they use to clean off a panel prior to "feathering in"......... if they tell you anything expensive then avoid them in the future!!

Some will use Meths, some use IPA, a lot use cellulose thinners

Petrol works just as well: it strips waxes and polishes off very quickly: try a tiny amount on a tar spot and see what I mean :)

Trust me, I'm a :doctor: (legal action pending though!)

I'm sure it works, but I'm not keen having petrol-soaked rags around - bit of a hazard, I think. And I expect one should keep the petrol well away from the rubber bits.

On the net, I found 'U-POL System 20 Waterbased Antistatic Panel Wipe'. It costs about
