Hatch or Combi vRS?

Featured Replies

Will be changing my car this year and am considering Combi Vrs ( cr 170 )

My question is

Are the Combi's noisier in the cabin than the Hatch?

Cheers

I have a vRS hatch and a Scout estate, not noticed any difference between the two in terms of road noise.

The hatch has a parcel shelf and the estate has a retractable load cover.

The reason I chose the hatch for the vRS was the estate is a little too understated. The spoiler on the hatch finishes it off nicely and the boot is exactly the same size, the only difference is the estate gets the extra height above the window line.

I chose the estate for exactly the same reasons :) i like understatement.

I have the Milltek exhaust on my Combi and it doesn't intrude at all, in fact sounds nicer than my old hatch..

see my photos with the spoiler, a lot nicer and rarer if you ask me to the hatch spoiler.. :)

I've driven diesels and petrols in both hatch and combi's and not noticed any difference in noise at all.

I got a combi/estate petrol model and it's fantastic and so versatile when I need that bit of extra carrying capacity.

Agreed...

The Estate is pretty noisy to be honest. Sound Proofing is an obvious area where Skoda have scrimped & saved. Sound deadening mat under 'boot' carpet & Skoda rubber boot mat helps. Still a good workhorse. Estate is far more practical, it is far easier to put a bike in the back for example than the saloon. Also looks better to most independent observers!

I don't know the year of your PD but I take it that it's not the latest facelift model which I know seems to have much better sound suppression all round, not least in the back panels.

Well its about time! Shame the cheapskates didn't do it in 2008

That'll be coming from an estate owner then

The Octavia isn't available as a saloon.

I think the estate hold 30litres extra, either way the boot and load space is massive. Try vaccumming the boot area in one, its a right stretch.

As I mentioned though, that extra space is above the window line and therefore rarely utilised.

The 'stretch' on the estate and hatch is identical.

But that extra space IS available in the Estate if the need should arise, sg when carrying a large dog crate. It amounts to a useful extra 200 litres (7 cu ft).

+ 1 especially when lowered!

Which is most of us then :giggle:

Some cars look better as an estate and have the added benefit of extra room = Octavia (esp vRS), Audi A4, all Volvos.

Some look better as a saloon = new BMW 5 series, Audi A6.

All a matter of personal taste, of course.

All told, a vRS Estate / Combi with a few toys is a lot of (very practical, properly quick) car for the money.......................

My CR170 FL vRS Estate is pretty noisy on the back (wind and tire rolling noises). It seems even noisier than my old PD105 Estate. I mean inside, not the engine itself, the CR is indeed much quieter

I prefer the Octy as a combi

I had no choice had to get the estate to get the "THING IN "

but its very quite....

Colour codeing you car to the dog, like it. lol

I had to look twice at the second picture......luckily it's a tail

Go for the hatch it's more sporty and stands out more than a standard Octavia hatch, the vrs estate looks no differant that a standard estate from the rear ;(
