Handbrake Return Springs

Featured Replies

My handbrake is sticking but not sticking on, its just not grabbing properly. Caliper aint even 12month olf yet

Kink in the cable somewhere?

euro sell the wider pagid pad to fit all rather than the slimmer vented disc one as do a lot of suppliers as cheaper cost price gsf did same when i was there and because they look the same shape nobody questions it

My springs should be here buy the weekend, will probably change my fuel filter the same time

Just been looking at some of these, am I right in saying that the Sharan ones (w7ho I think) have more of a hook for the moving part, and the 1ko have a stepped end which allows for positioning in the little hole at the rear? What did you guys order?

I just ordered a pair off eBay, I know I prob paid more but its just easier

httpp://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=261853826243&alt=web .

Not sure if their the right ones or if they'll fit

They look like the Alhambra ones which should be fine, sometimes the pic on ebay misleads but again it looks like one end is more hooked than stepped so may hook in one hole rather than push through into the little hole as per photos and links in this thread. See how it goes.

Got 2 chances

Did mine today, had to put a fair old kink in the dog leg to get it to poke through the little hole. String came in handy to pull it round, shoved hook in and got it rested, gave it a little tap to get it in the slot and then pushed it forwards. Done. Not driven it yet but should be better as I found one arm opened by a good 10mm by hand when I started fitting.

I did the service on mine but not had a chance to do the springs yet. Can you let me know if it makes a difference please?

Will do, won't be moving it until tomorrow mind.

I have had them on mine for about a year, they cure about 98% of the mooing, but you do get the occasional 1 or 2 second muted moo if the weather is damp and the discs have surface corroded while parked.

In my opinion, a very cost effective mod to cure a really annoying design anomaly.

Once again I don't really understand why things that make sense on other vag cars around the same level have things that just aren't on the vrs. My springs matched the 1k0 part number but we're listed for the Golf 4. For £4.50 if it makes it halfway better I'm happy. Think my issue is compounded by new discs and pads bedding in, think it was dubDEAN saying that ecp knock out the one size fits all rear pads which don't account for the width of the vented disc on the rear. Thinking about it they were pretty snug when I fitted them.

I think as far as VAG's attitude seems to be, it would seem Skoda build there cars down to a budget on the line to the expense of ridiculous small component costs that would make such an improvement to the product. But................. if they made Skoda's right first time, probably 50% less people would buy VW's, it all comes down to £££££.

Slight moo as I pulled off the drive but it was very damp overnight here, was certainly better, on journey in, couple of hill starts, no moo.  Upshot is as Phil says they may not get rid of it completely but expect a good improvement, I'm also on new pads and discs though so could still be some bedding in to do, especially if they are the fatter pads.

Ideal, cheers for that mate. Will get mine done when it dries up

yeah for £5 you can't grumble really.

Pulled them with string once in the top hole, helped a lot. I had to put more kink in the stepped end as well.
