Rear Washer Not Working

Featured Replies

Following on from GeeMan's thread regarding his rear washer, I thought I'd investigate why my rear washer wasn't working. So I had a quick look just now, Standing out side the car with the rear washer pushed on and all of a sudden I can hear running water, I looked forward and there is a massive puddle right by the drivers side front wheel. When I investigated it appears that the pipe that comes from the pump had become disconnected from the hose that feeds the rear washer. So I removed the evap cannister, re fitted the pipe and thought that should be it! But no, still not water out of the rear washer. The jets seem ok and not blocked at all but still no water. I've had a look in the passenger side of the boot for the hose that should run under the cd changer and I can't see one. Does it run down the same side/place for the hatch as it does the estate?

Cheers

Howard

when ours failed the pipe had come off the motor itself in the bootlid.....

There are several joins in the pipe between the pump and the wiper motor so it could have come apart at any of these. Best case it's come apart at the motor or at the join behind the side of the boot trim, but IIRC there are other joins in the pillars and behind the headlining so look out for wet patches

If it does run in the same place as the estate then the pipe isn't evident as it is wrapped inside the wiring loom so you have to untape it all to actually see it

Just a little update. I thought I'd have another look today and Roberts you mothers brother it was the same pipe disconnected at Gee-man's. Fitted it back together and all working fine now. Whoop Whoop, thats another thing off the list.

Necro-bump. My boot seems to be filling up with water and in the CD changer area as well. Before I go digging in there, is that just a joiner for the pipes, or is it a non-return valve?

I have joiners, but not sure if I have any non-return valves in my stocks...

Just a joint. Push it back together and job done.

Some people recommend a tie-wrap there, but I would rather that joint popped apart rather than a more difficult to access one, such as behind the boot trim, etc.

My rear sunroof drain pipes also pass through that area, so something else to consider too.

No sunroof...! ;)

Phew!

Cheers bro!

Mines not worked for ages, am not getting any water to boot joint altho pumps running hell for leather.

Ive tried blasting down from back with airline and get bubbles in washer bottle so am guessing it must be trapped somewhere but i carnt for life of me find where.

Try popping the joint in the boot and see if you get a flow to there (attach a length of clear hose and drain to a bottle rather than making a flood). At least it gives you an idea which section needs more investigation.

That was with joint in boot popped, pumps like mad but don't get any water, wondering if i've caught squashed pipe somewhere down car when ive had it apart just need to find where pipe runs

mine has been popped off for ages i have had it put back together 3 times but this time just decided to leave it i hardly use the rear washer anyways and i think it pops off because of opening and shutting the boot

I open my boot 6 times a day, and mine hasn't popped off yet :giggle:
