Had Enough of Virgin Mobile

Featured Replies

Contract ended in December. Was 18mth @ £30/month. Went in well in advance to cancel it and switch to a Sim only at £10/month as there's no phone I want at the moment and my HTC Desire is fine for now. They said I didn't need a new sim or number and could all be done no problem. Month goes by and I get an email saying £30 was due to come out. Err nope so I went back to the store to sort it, said they had, refunded the difference and all was well. Or so I thought. Yesterday I get another E-Mail saying £30 is coming out in a few days. Pretty annoyed by now so went back to the store to try and sort it. But they were having none of it. Said I had to ring 789 and cancel it myself, couldn't be done in store etc.

They did say I could go for a new Sim Only deal but judging by what's gone on already I can't be bothered to deal with them any more. When I ring them to cancel I'll ask for my PAC code for my number and to unlock the phone. If they want to charge me they can get stuffed. I just want recommendations of where to go next. All I want is a monthly SIM with unlimited/more than 1gb allowance (as it's on wifi most of the time anyway), few minutes and texts and that will do as long as it's as cheap.

I moved to three last year after years with o2, having tried O2, T-mobile, Orange, Vodafone and Three in our area (Ammanford-Swansea-Cardiff) i can tell you that without a shadow of a doubt the performance of three is head and shoulders above everyone else the mobile data speeds are just fantastic and coverage too, i dont get dropped calls at all, very impressed with them.

You could check out SIM 300 - 1 month All-you-can-eat data. its £15 a month on a 1 month rolling contract.

300 minutes

3000 texts

All-you-can-eat data

Sim only

1 month rolling contract

£15 a month

Three or Giffgaff do the best sim only deals at the moment.

i'd agree with that Chronic, just i've always found o2's data to be pretty shockingly bad in the south wales area but in other areas im sure its fine.

Oh god, I've never heard anything but bad press for Three, which I told my bf, but he went with them anyway. I'm on O2, and we'll be stood somewhere; like the middle of Tesco, or even the middle of nowhere and he's like 'I've got no signal....' so I'm just like 'serves you right!' lol!

Maybe search reviews for the best coverage in your area. I once checked coverage, there is a website that shows where each network covers. AFAIK BT/O2 are, and always have been, the best, but I suppose it does depend on your location. I once swapped to T-mob, then swapped straight back!

One question - you say you want unlimited data (in which case you're probably stuck with Three as few places offer it now) yet say you're on wifi most of the time?! You'd be doing pretty well to get through 1gb of data in a month, especially if you're alway on wifi? *confused*

I do have unlimited data with O2, but it's an older sim-only contract, I just buy my handsets.

No that's what I'm saying. Either Unlimited or 1gb I'd prefer as I keep it down well because I'm on Wifi in work an at home anyway. I thought some companies only did 500mb which probably wouldn't be enough

Strangely enough for me Loz o2 are horrific, but then again it all depends on the area you're in like you said

Originally Virgin who share T-Mobile coverage didn't exist down my cousins (Trimsaran) or any where down that way. Now they can use Orange too it's actually quite good everywhere now. I'm working in Ammanford most weeks so O2 wouldn't be any good for me if that's the case. Haven't phoned yet but I'll hopefully get a chance tomorrow. I was happy with the coverage but not being clearly messed about and fobbed off. Do any providers these days give good customer service?

Had no issues with Three at all, now and again in large buildings I wont get a signal but then I don't usually need to make emergency calls in Tesco. :giggle: Truly unlimited data and tethering are worth the price of a rare poor signal.

However, worth checking the signal in your area, you can do this with a free Pay go sim. I left O2 due to the appalling customer service, endless mistakes and awful price plans.

Another thumbs up for three from me.

I find most of the time that I have signal and my friends on O2 etc have either no or very poor/2G coverage.

Three is definitely the best for their data. I have unlimited. I used to have just 500mb and I'm on my first month and have already chewed through nearly 3GB.

I am on sim only 600:

600 mins

3000 txts

3000 3 to 3 mins

All you can eat data

£15 p/m

Tesco, sim only £15.00 a months, rolling contract (month to month), 750 min, 5000 texts, 1GB data

  • 1 month later...

I went with Virgin as I have their services at home and get a good deal for our 2 mobiles.

The coverage (T-Mobile) was awful at times but now it swaps to Orange, I rarely have a problem now.

Can't say I have ever had a problem with their customer services, always sorted me out when I have called about a problem.

My package is: £27.99/month

1300 mins

5000 texts

1Gb Internet

3000 Virgin to Virgin mins

Unlimited Blackberry

My wife has one for £7.99/month and is ideal for her.

Forgot to update this. I rung them to explain and threatened to cancel it all, start again and to either send me a new SIM or I'd go elsewhere. The person I spoke to was helpful and because of my inconvenience I was refunded about £90 and they dropped my contract to £10/month but still 600 minutes, Unlimited texts and 1GB internet which is what the old contract was. I took this with a pinch of salt but within 2 days the money had been refunded and £10 came out of my account last week for the contract. Coverage is good now it uses Orange too.

Slightly different question but I'm thinking about upgrading phones soon and like the look of the HTC One X. Am I better off buying a new unlocked one and keeping this contract or starting a lot more expensive new contract?

One X is fairly cheap now, can get deals starting at around £20-25 a month and a free phone. Sim free I think its circa 450-500 quid. Work out the figures. :)

Wait a few weeks as the upcoming new Samsung Galaxy may be worth a look and even if that sucks it should drive prices down of competing phones(hopefully).

The new Galaxy launches today at 7pm according to their website. Whatever I upgrade to has to be a decent upgrade
