So my mate works on the roads, setting up temporarily traffic lights for BT to do work on poles and ****... and after he had a few hours spare so set them up anyway and proceeded to sit in the middle of the road to eat his lunch whilst waiting.

He wrote this on Facebook:

Was hungry and bored so put 2 way traffic lights out for a pic-nic literally on the A274 Biddenden road don't know why everyones soo angry mans gotta eat Pmsl !!!!

Now what I didn't realise until he came round was that he was literally the only guy there, he went and set his iPhone recording on the other side of the road and then print-screened the video to get the above photo. During the video people are beeping him and slowing right down to have a watch of him nibbling on his sandwich.

I could barely breathe whilst watching the video because you can hear the cars sat queueing for ages until they pull away only to see him sitting there having a chump.

 Get the video up.

Wonder how that sits with his employers safety policies?

A distracted driver could easily have wiped him out.

Actually ROFL that's brilliant!! That has made my day, pure genius. Love it.

Mad to think some people actually walk outside their house on a path next to cars isn't it?! All these distracted drivers roaming around. luckily I stay in doors where it's safe. None of this crossing roads with traffic lights to hold the traffic for me! Nutters

You knew what I meant. There is a reason road workers are unable to get life cover due to the obvious risks in their job.

How is it any more unsafe than usual?

Excellent... This is pretty much the same as what transco do.. They set up somewhere, dig a big hole, have6 men watch another man down the hole, then pack up and go home.

If a car was to breach the coned area he wouldnt be able to move being sat down. If on his feet, he'd be able to move out of the way if a situation occurred.

Best hope his employers dont see it. Cant imagine they'd find it as funny. I'd go so far as to say it'd be verging on gross misconduct.

Exactly what I thought.... It is maybe a little funny, but he could be majorly in the ****.

I'd be in the van personally, from a safety p.o.v. :)

He regularly works down in a hole fitting new pipes though, he'd never have time to climb out etc. Seems like as per usual you're trying to climb as high as you can on your horse tbh. It's no more dangerous than when he's working.

HAHA that's brill. He should do it again and set up a table, chairs, and a full gourmet lunch :mmm:

Bit like this

I'd be careful putting photos and videos up of this he may well find himself out of a job.

Funny, but at the same time I'd be in the van, as said I bet the boss would love it

Not my job, I don't care

Not my job, I don't care

Neither do I if I'm honest

If the guy has stuck it up on his facebok then I don't see why anyone should care about any repercussions. He seems to feel publising it is OK.

There you go I have corrected your post.

One time I was doing some work on a Transco site 6 blokes turned up to watch my contractor drill a hole, half way through 5 of them popped off to do a spot of shopping. When I asked one if they all needed to be there to watch he said "oh yes, besides we're on overtime now so take as much time as you like".

no we have differing views on what's funny. Pretty much the same as you would against a 14yr old.

as even others have said, if that funny and not a big deal send the pic to his boss. I'm sure he'll be LOLing for ages.

Agreed. If I was in one of those traffic queues he caused, I'd want to get out and thump him.

We all have differing senses of humour, no need to get up tight because you dont find this particularly amusing.

Jesus, how do you get through a day of driving without getting arrested for assault? In the grand scheme of things, getting held up for a few seconds at some lights is pretty low on my list of things to get worked up about.

That may be so, but I also don't know how this chap didn't get prosecuted for unnecessary obstruction of the highway.

Imagine if there had been an RTC at these lights, hmmm awkward!

I'd have simply spoken to someone at the firm whose sign writing adorns his van, possibly taking my own pics too.

It's akin to driving the company van with name and number on like a twonk.

Personally couldn't give a monkeys either way. Just expressing my viewpoint.

We do alot of service work on the overhead lines and the hassle we go to get a set of traffic lights up from council is a nightmare. BT are a waste of time. They turn up when they want too and we are governed heavily by the regulator in the elec industry regarding customer lost minutes so most of the time depending on what type of road we usually apply to have the traffic lights set up for the day so we not rushing to meet deadlines and if we finish quicker we phone it through but the traffic lights company will turn up at the time we agreed originally due to them being on other jobs. We are not allowed remove at all and who to say in the pic BT may have gone to another site for another job on that particular line and have to return to reconnect/ test/ disconnect the line
