had the revo takin off the car because i couldnt feel any difference with it on the car , but now thats its off the car feels slow and crap which is why i spent a bit coin on the cosworth lol , but av been lookin at the toyosport downpipe and decat , a TIP and repace the pancake pipe with a bigger 1 and a intercooler and a remap AGAIN lol

Rubbish

You want an fmic

Ths do one for the mk4 golf 1.8t which fits our octavias and its over 200cheaper than a forge fmic

Don't give him advice like that, k03s turbos don't NEED a front mount. They get on fine with uprated side mounts. They're not a big turbo, having a huge front mount is ****ing in the wind slightly.

okay so what info have you got to back this up with??? heat soak is a massive issue for the k03s when giving it large or running on very hot days !! so if you can show that no one needs a front mount and these small uprated side mounts are perfect for the job then please show your findings cheers

save alot of people alot of money ;-) but from experience im pretty sure even with a uprated sidemount they still suffer bad when pushed hard and running higher boost and 230+ bhp

when i went to get the remap done the other week i had 6 runs on the dyno and the dyno operater said my intake temps were gettin hot , not sure if it was ture tho as the car made 183bhp before then 207bhp after a stage 1 revo

Even running stock bhp my octavia feels laggy after a few blasts

Uprated smics from what i've read as i've done a lot of reading on them is they simply dont work and have actually been proved to operate inferior to the stock smic, ths intercooler i mentioned is a twin pass so boost piping is nice and short

I've just fitted a single pass front mount intercooler to my vrs with bam inlet manifold conversion to reduce inlet track, its only running stage one shark remap and i can tell a hell of a differance between smic and fmic

Theres a 6 week old forge one for sale on edition38 for 350

I just said he didn't need one. Not everyone has £500 to throw at their car at will. I'm sure it would cope unless he goes max stage 2 like you say at 230+.

be aware you will increase turbo lag with a front mount - simple laws of physics

whether you can notice it or not is another matter .... :D

Your post pretty much said front mounts are pointless with a k03s !!!! A front mount dodány need to cost 500 !!!!

If you insist. I just said he doesn't NEED one.

Jase above me said they were rubbish, rather sweeping and I just said thats not true. My friend when getting a custom map from Shark was told a front mount isn't necessary at all. And he got good consistent results around the 220bhp mark with an uprated side mount. Everyone is so quick to jump to arguments on here.

rr results must favour fmic because of where the fan is placed right in front of the rad , not to the side where a side mount is, restricting air flow thro it.a good smic must be better then standard one!

I havent seen any concrete proof those 'turborevs' ones are any better than stock. The design of the cooling fins doesnt look great. Until I do see proof they are better, the stock one will do.

for £105 I'll give one ago, really can't see how it can't be an inprovment over the standard one :/ better count my pennys :)

LOL my friend said ha ha

If you post telling others what they posted was rubbish you got to back it up simples

Ive had all sorts of different frontmounts and sidemounts and all the time the front mount will be better. Everything does have a limit;-)

Just because a mapper said dont make it right ;-)

Its a cheap chinese generic intercooler versus the stock one which is designed specifically for the job. I wouldnt do it without proof these are better, and I cant actually find any to say there is!

don't you all think this talk about smic v fmic is a bit silly when RR does not simulate actual driving

would it not be better for someone to test these by checking IAT and boost levels with several back to back runs with VCDS logging the data? Anything else is a bit of a farce tbh

p.s. I'm sure I also read those turborevs smic's were worse than the standard smic, which is actually pretty good indeed!

trouble is the standard one not up to the job,its not really any good on standard 150 bhp models car and rubish on vrs ones let alone a remaped one, cheers for the input:) I'll have a ponder

All my tests i do are via datalogging ;-)

Remeber the reason the standard oné isnt great on a standard ?ar is because 9x out of ten its coverd in oil internally due to the PCv systém!!!!!!

You can keep you tempa down with just good maintanence ;-)

I never said it was rubbish, it seems you just like arguments. The front mount IS better overall, again, read what I said. You don't NEED one. It's not a necessity.

All I did was bring some balance to the sweeping all smic are rubbish post.

No need to go Willy waver on it.

Out of curiosity, how do you clean the internals of an intercooler? As I assume using water isn't a good idea? Cos I would guess mine needs doing.

Carb cleaner and cold water hose does the trick

http://www.briskoda....mk1-octavia-vrs

Hope that helps with the cleaning.

Ideally we need someone who's upgrading from the standard intercooler to do some before and after VCDS logs of ambient temps, IATs, boost and timing pull. Ok if it ends up showing the intercooler they've bought is rubbish that might be a bit embarrassing but it would be grounds to demand a refund and would help people on here (threads like this come up every few months)

There is a massive lack of proof as to how well some of these intercoolers work despite the fact so many VW/Seat/Audi/Skoda owners fit them so the whole things going to be a minefield in the meantime.
