Getting in touch with previous owner...

Featured Replies

As some of you will know, ive recently bought my new fabia, with but no history, lock and wheel nut etc.. etc..

logbook came in the post today so i have the details of the only other keeper of the vehicle so been thinking if i should get in touch with him, facebook most likley.

Has anyone done this before?

it seems a little...out of order to bother someone with an old car they have nothing to do with anymore, so not sure what to do.

but on the other hand, he might have all the stuff i need with the lock and wheel nut, history, recipts etc...

Sold as seen. You chose to buy it without the locking wheel nut etc (or failed to check before purchasing). If I was the previous owner and you contacted me I'd most likely ignore you. Especially if a dealer did the selling. If I had some spare time I'd probably av a larf and ask if the clock still had the 300,000 miles I put on, say I ragged the thing to death and never serviced it.

You should be able to purchase a locking wheel nut key thing from a dealer.

I got the car as salvage thats all, just after a bit information if its at hand

If I was you I would contact them cant do no harm. They either help you or ignore.

I'd definitely do it. The worst you can get is told to f*** off. Whenever I've contacted the previous owner I've got a positive response.

I had the next owner of a previous car contact me many years ago, I helped them out with their query and they were very happy.

I would send a letter rather than try facebook, you stand more of a chance of getting a reply as not everyone is on facebook.

Dont phone them, there maybe a reason why the car is salvage. A loved one could of been hurt in an accident.

Yup, as above. I wouldn't have any issues filling in the blanks for a previous car. Send a letter with your contact details and what info your after and wait and see. Good luck!

Stamped, addressed envelope would be good.

I got contacted by previous owner of my fabia vrs last month as all history had been lost. I was only too happy to help

I'd probably av a larf and ask if the clock still had the 300,000 miles I put on it were still on the speedo, and say I ragged the thing to death and never serviced it.

You are a terrible , terrible person , but without a doubt I'd do the same thing .

ID contact the previous owner Via letter rather then FB , bit more formal and stalky

Just an update: Well i went against what a few people said and sent who i thought the owner was on facebook. I thought this would be the fastest easiest way to get in touch. I got a reply pretty fast saying they didnt own the car it was his brother so told me to add him, i added his brother and glad i did!

He was more than happy to help with answering my questions, he told me all the warranty work the car has had, (door seals, some bushes, starter motor) told me he had loads of recipts, old mots, the service book stamped all up to date with full service history, a full size spare wheel with lock and wheel nut as well as a few other bits and bobs, he lives about an hour away so arranging to pick all the parts up shortly :)

possitive result! :D

Result and a half.

My mums car unfortunately got flattened by a 30ft tree during the bad weather a few months ago! When the car was written off we left everything in it that we had. A new owner has now brought the car from salvage and has written my mother a letter about how there is no locking wheel nut and various other parts including a sat nav DVD. We have not replied as they must understand they brought the car as seen. We have nothing that they say so havent bothered replying!
