Wrong oil ?

Featured Replies

Hi you good people, just had my Octy Vrs serviced today but I`m a little concerned that the wrong oil has been used by the garage. They have left about half a litre of 10w 40 Semi synthetic oil in my boot, I asked if this is what they used and I was told yes this is the rite oil to use with a car with the mileage Mine has which is just over a 100k. I am so sure that it should run on full synthetic oil 5w 30. Do I have any worries here with it having the wrong grade of oil could this cause me any problems?

hi mate, so long as the oil is 507.00 vw grade then its fine iirc, could be 504 for fixed.

10w40 is ok to use for fixed 10k serviceing.

miles dont matter, mine is on 112k and I use 5w30 longlife stuff still for the 20k service. have done since new and I go 18-20k between services. mainly due to my car doing high miles when she was the only car.

10W40 semisyntetic is not the best oil for the VRS but is not a wrong oil!

504 and 507 are both long life - it's 505 and 502 that are fixed

the first number of each combo is the diesel oil spec, the second is the petrol spec
