Lighter cable

Featured Replies

Need a quick response please as car is in bits.

The power connector to the cigarette lighter has 3 wires going to it.

Brown, black with white stripe and a blue and grey striped wire.

Need to know which is + and - and what 3rd wire is for. I assume brown is + but not sure which is -

Cheers

Brown is most likely an earth (at least it is on my '07 Ocatvia).

Blue/grey is frequently for illumination which would suggest a +ve.

Meaning Black would be (by deduction) the -ve.

I'm no electrician so these are just my experiences.

Brown is live!! Feeds both lighter and illumination.

The black is earth for actual lighter and the blue one is earth for illumination.

Thanks for replies. I have the centre console out and it looks like the grey/blue is for illumination. So that is sorted. The black and white goes to the centre pin of the lighter and the red to the outside of the lighter, so I guess this would make the black and white +, would this be correct. I am wanting to wire up a USB port for charging and it has red and black cables, so I am thinking connect red to black/ white and black to brown.
