pikey intake mod for vrs

Featured Replies

So me and a few of the guys were looking at the intake pipe(attaches the the grill) on my vrs, and we couldnt see how any air was getting in as the intake pipe was not visable looking through the grill so 5 minuites later we had it in bits....

There is only a tiny wee gap for the air to get in and thats by it getting sucked in rather than rammed in so mr dovit decided that if we cut out the flap that seemed to be restricting it the most it would let more airflow through, next he decides that if we turned the pipe from the airbox too the mount upside down it would make the intake pipe level with the grill, therefor creating a ram effect by the air flowing into the grill being constantly fprced into the pipe rather than only being sucked in.

So my car now seem to pull a wee bit better and the revo filter sounds more gruntier, but the biggest diffrence is at higher speed when u can heer the air being forced into the turbo and the most building up quicker and holding for slightly longer. so all in all it seems to have made a fair bit of diffrence over the awful stock intake pipe design :)

Unfortunatly we didnt take any pictures but it any has any pictues of the intake pipe i could always make a guide on how todo it

well known mod, but keep in mind, the intake is designed like this due to the fakt that water fog (when driving behind another car on a wet road) can acces the intake pipe/ airbox and your filter works like a sponge then .

also while opening your airbox you could cut a piece of this plastic wall in there

We thought about the sponge effect but aslong as i keep enough distance and avoid heavy acceleration when in wet wether it shouldnt get too bad

We looked at that but we werent to sure if that was there to create a vortex of air and get it moving around the box

What about crusing on the motorway at say 70mph through heavy rain?

i thought about doing that but yeah driving in the rain would suck.

i have a pastery door opener mod coming soon.

I had a ram intake on my polo and it was fine, plus i always carry the stock filter incase of emergancys

what ive done is made my own air intake feed pipe from a felxi aluminium pipe and that heat reisitant fibreglass exhaust wrap. resined it all up and i have a heat resistant air feed pipe. it looks a bit "meh"but it works well.

ingeniuos bit of enginuity

isnt that what pikey is all about :-P

isnt that what pikey is all about :-P

to be honest guys, there will be very little if any effect due to water as the airbox has holes in the bottom and also if any "water vapour" does sneak into the ram pipe, the heat in the engine bay would be suffice to evaporate it. Also, at the time, the front grilled had the solid vent parts in front of the intake trumpet, again this would reduce further any water etc getting into the ram pipe........*phew* lol

hth folks ;)
