Roof mounted bike carrier + roof box?

Featured Replies

I have an Octy estate on which I carry a 200L Thule roof box mounted on square section Thule bars when I go on holiday.

I'm now getting into cycling and want to take my road bike. Is it possible to get a full size roof box and a cycle carrier on the roof? Does anyone have any experience/recommendations?

PS. The roof box is non negotiable as the ladies of the house insist on taking the contents of their wardrobes away with them.

I've seen it done by sliding the box over as far as possible one side and having the bike the other. The only thing you need to check is the weight limit of the roof bars.

If the roof box is long and thin as apposed to short and fat, you'll be able to slide it to one side. This will give you plenty of space to fit the bike.

Thought I had a pic of when I had mine fitted, roof box is 360l, with the bike, but I can't find it. If you look on Halfords site you'll see some pics of the setup.

Weight on the rack will be ok, just remember lightish stuff only in the box.

I have a long and thin box also and can get 2 bikes on the roof with it:

What about towing the bikes?
