Remap hasn't delivered claimed +40 bhp

Featured Replies

I've just had my Superb PD130 remapped by a well known firm and haven't had a chance to properly test it yet, plus the ECU will need a few miles to adapt and deliver the full whack, but when I got the rolling road read out it showed that the car was making 146 bhp originally (it's supposed to be a 130 bhp) but after the remap it was still only showing 168 bhp (or +40, give or take, over the stock figure).

Now, I expected it to be around 170 bhp anyway because it was originally supposed to be 130 bhp, but my question is, can I complain for money off as they claim a +40 bhp increase but have only given me a +22 bhp increase over the actual output? I wanted it to feel +40 bhp faster, but it seems to be only +22 bhp faster.

Have I missed some diesel engine remapping common knowledge/etiquette thing?

Cheers

Was it the same rolling road for before and after?

All engines are different, and the results are different as a result. The same is true of rolling roads, an individual result should not be trusted as its very easy for the operator to skew the figures and produce higher or lower figures.

With a remap, its all about how it drives afterwards.

170BHP is about the limit of a stock engine.

As long as it drives well thats the main thing, people get far too taken up on high figures, just gets into a willy waving competition then lol

As said, every engine is different, you wouldnt want any more than that with a stock turbo.

170bhp-ish is about right for a remapped PD130, so everything is fine :)

I would expect it to be 168 or 169 bhp so that it doesn't exceed a 30% increase in power (important for insurance reasons).

Cheers everyone. I guess I need to put the bald man away and concentrate on driving it - the car, not the bald man :)

The +40 bhp is given on the quoted 130bhp not what the actual car is producing to begin with.

Most of these PD130's have a higher output than the quoted figure anyway.

I think though, to be fair, they should quote the maximum power they can take a PD130 up to rather than the ammount they can increase the power by.

What's the torque figures?

Sounds right for a PD130. My old Ibiza FR TDI was remapped to 167.1 bhp and 301 lb/ft which was plenty more than stock :D

Mines made 173bhp...

Tbh the lower the better on a pd130, suspect turbo's and weak flywheels :o

Power is good and map looks nice and smooth

Torque is a tad low however near 300 lb/ft is more usual for a pd130 remap, but i suppose the lower torque figure will keep the flywheel in good condition

My Fabia VRS Mk1 had a AmD One Click.

160 bhp and it was fantastic !
