Fuel Smell inside the car

Featured Replies

Hello Guys,

I have a 2002 Octavia L&K 1.8T with only 56,000 KMS.

Just recently I begin to fill a gas odor inside the car...... It filled more strong when I put the AC.

When I start the car in the morning it pass like 15 minutes and then I begin to fill the gas odor.

I am driving with the AC on but with my widow a little roll down because is bother me the fuel odor.

I call the Skoda Dealer to check if they have experienced this problem with other Octavia´s and they toll me to remove the rear seat and smell over there on the carpet since under is the fuel tank. I move the rear seat to the front and I can´t smell anything there.

Have any of you has experienced this problem? What other thing you can recommend me to check or change.

Any Clue or Advise?

THX

Isaac

Does it smell like burnt fuel, or liquid fuel? If it smells like burning, it could be a leak in the fuel line hitting something hot then the fumes are being sucked into the AC unit. Especially if its taking some time to build up (not a problem until the engine heats up) Check all the hoses/pipes in the enigine bay for cracks, loose joints or wet patches under them.

Well,  I took the car to the Skoda dealer. Its look like one of the hose 1J0 201 160D that goes to the Charcoal Canister (Black reservoir next to the coolant tank) on the engine was the problem...... The fuel vapor was sucked into the AC unit by the pollen filter and that's why I was smelling fuel inside.

THX,

Isaac

God Damn hoses and pipes ;-)

Glad you got sorted though, I spent 3 weeks driving a Ford Fiesta diesel at work that stank of fuel and smoke from the same problem. took that long to get the Fleet lease company to clear a booking to sort it out....
