Octy II 2005 questions

Featured Replies

I have 2005 1.9PD Dti 105 Elegance, Hatchback

If I prise (gently) the headlight washers cover forward on bumper it looks like I have washers... How to make them work? Is there a test routine?

Should there be a rear wash on the back screen? Blowed if I can see it?

Why do car manufacturers think its ok to have water p*ss*ng in when you turn a corner with window open a bit???? I have ordered climair deflectors.

So far thats the questions I'm sure I will have more.

I did trawl posts looking for answers but have not found definitive ones yet.

The headlight washers only work with the lights turned on (some work just on side lights, others require dipped headlights) and on the first and then every fifth time you operate the front windscreen washers.

Yes, there is a rear wash but they are known to block regularly so it is likely yours is blocked too. It is located actually on the wiper arm down near its base. Lift off the hinged balck cover and pull off the washer jet, give it a good clean and away you go!

Darn, but its cold out there, jets blocked (Tried with a needle but got to cold to stay out) or pipe off, will look in morning. No sign of headlamp washers coming out to spray. Headlights bone dry. So something else to look at.

Oh the joys of buying a car (New or second hand).

The headlight washers are prone to freezing during the winter months and popping the fuse. This would be my first check.

Once you lift the black plastic cover up to reveal the rear washer jet you should be able to simply prise off the jet, it's just a push fit. Once it's off you can drop it into a bowl of hot water mixed with vinegar - with a strong blow this soon clears them through, or at least it did mine!

Thanks for the further info Silver1011, good stuff. Will check first

Darn glad I found this forum.

If it's not the washer jet that is blocked it might be that the pipe has popped off somewhere along its journey from the washer bottle in the engine bay. Be careful if you are trying the rear washer as if water isn't appearing at the rear screen you may be filling a part of the interior up with washer fluid!

Some bedtime reading for you here:

Also check you have enough fluid in your reservoir

Yep, most likely the fuse has blown for the headlamp washers. Check the location in the owner's manual - think it's a 20A and it's in the driver's panel location (there are two fuse locations, there and under bonnet).

It happened to me on an early Octavia II Elegance 1.6 FSI 2004 (gave me a lot of problems this car...)- the problem on mine was the pipe (on the drivers side) had come out of the back of the washer unit - fixed it myself but was a bit of a bitch! Like most people have said your first port of call should be your fuse box, another indicator could be a lot of water/wash fluid on the floor under the washers/headlights. Hope all goes well...

Regards

Excellent advice, I replaced fuse for headlamp wash - now working perfectly, and cleaned nozzles for rear spray - now working as well.

No wonder I did not see them before!

Now I need to work out why the installed fuses do not seem to tally with handbook. The ratings seem to be fine where I an confirm what they are for

but there seems to be ones missing where they should be and ones which appear to be redundant?

Still much happier now that all the bits are working. I just hate it when stuff doesn't work right.

Also as bought from a second hand stealer I have limited time to check everything.

Huge up for help to all

One thing to check - and this may sound like a daft question - but is the fuse layout in the handbook set out for LHD? I can't remember for certain, but have come across this before! So the layout is effectively reversed for RHD.

I made the same mistake with the fuse box, its basically mirrored from the diagram in the handbook - look to the shape of it rather than as I did count accross from one side. Dohh

Yes the plastic fuse diagram in the fuse compartment is for left hand drive
