Re: DMF vs SMF. My car when I bought it had a torque spike to 380lbft very low down the rev range. The (original from factory) DMF still lasted a fair while. So I think that with 358lbft, if properly mapped and not spiking from around 2000rpm where mine was, you probably could run a DMF if you were sensible about gearchanges. However, I would at least buy a new one rather than running the original one which probably puts the price pretty equal anyway whatever you do.

Techniclutch have many stories on forums about them just selling OEM clutches which have been painted, so if that's what Awesome are selling then personally I would avoid them. I know it's expensive, but I'd rather go the extra couple of hundred quid and do it right the first time around, it's a fair chunk of work which is either going to cost a lot in labour, or take up a lot of your own time. For example, when I had my clutch changed recently to fit my Sachs with DMF, and it was in for about 11 hours due to various problems. Obviously I paid the book price which is for just under 5 hours of labour, but that was only because I have a good relationship with the guy who did it, a clutch change isn't something you want to be doing very often either way. I've also been told by another source that Awesome's clutch kits are manufactured by Borg and Beck, who are another name I don't associate with the performance market. I'm afraid for me it's Sachs, Helix or Southbend, the three companies who always seem to get generally good reviews from proper modified car enthusiasts.

All I will say is that if you're buying a clutch, ask for a proper torque rating. Several companies simply market their parts as "25% uprated". Bearing in mind the torque output for the Fabia vRS is around 236lbft as standard, and a stock VAG 6 speed clutch can take around 300lbft, the stock clutch is already "25% uprated" over what you actually need. So you could be spending money on a part which doesn't actually offer you anything...

Thanks for that review mate very insightfull ive recently spoke 2 c g motorsport who can supply the hole smf kit wiv a clutch rated to 520lb ft for 580 soumds good to me
