Dangerous?

Featured Replies

hi guys, as you all know now i've had my car put back to standard. thing is, one of the things i had done to it was the uprated cupra bushes which are just gonna have to stay in as theyre too much of a ball ache to change back to oem. my mechanic was looking under the car after i was complaining of loads of creaks and bangs and knocks. he found the problem, which involved greasing the front bushes (which silenced the creaks) but the knocks were from a bolt that is around 5" long that holds part of the wishbone together. it had threaded itself and he couldnt fix the problem there and then as he was doing the work on my drive with a few tools and he hadnt banked on the bolt being in the state it was.

he says there is some kind of plastic compound that can be put round the bolt which will then set as it is put back in and tightened up so it wont move again. have you guys heard of this?

more to the point, does it sound safe to you???

Iain

Not sure really, is it not lock tight or somthing he ment?

Lock tight is just a type of glue really. Depending where you use it just put a few drops on the threads and tighten it up. The glue should spread around the nut and bolt and then dry solid

It will be thread lock. It's quite expensive for decent stuff and make sure if you get some it's only the nut and bolt version as there's loads of types of the stuff and the rest will be way to strong

he works for VW as a tech so i reckon he will have the right stuff.

fingers crossed it does the trick!!

Exactly the same thing happened to mine and belive me lock tight doesn't work or taking it off having it re threaded lol new 1 is the only fix haha my steering was all over the place when it came loose ;)
