Hey, first post here although ive spent the past year mooching around these fantastic forums since i purchased my mk1 Octy vrs.

Anyhow the story is, 3 weeks ago i had my K03s replaced due to the o-ring popping off the bottom of my compbrake dv and mangling the blades! worked a treat so i rang PSI Tuning who are local to ask about a remap. (they also fitted the turbo) i asked whether it would be wise with a new turbo and was given the thumbs up.

Got the car back on thursday night, pulled like a train altough the boost seemed abit high from what ive researched for a stage 1, i was seeing 1.5 bar quickly stabilizing at 1.3, and all was well for roughly an hour. the problem is it started off with a dodgey howling sound from the turbo breifly as it started to spool then it was replaced by the air sucking in, now its developed to zero boost and an even louder howl constantly on any kind of load :( the best part is that psi are closed for the easter break!

ive checked everything post turbo to throttle body and theres nothing split, popped etc, im just really hoping the turbo hasnt died again :(

anyone had a similar experience? by the way, this noise can be made out of gear with throttle taps

Pancake pipe? Really you need to take the arch liner off to check the intercooler but the pancake pipe can be checked from underneath

well i had the wheel and arch liner off, stripped all the charge pipes from turbo to the throttle body and put back together nice and tight. no signs of any splits or damage. didnt take the intercooler out but did reseat the connections either side to make sure. could a leak on the intercooler itself cause absolutly no possitive boost though? i would have thought just a reduced boost level maybe?

the funny thing is the noise goes away if you pull the actuator rod towards the wastegate open position. at this rate its going back to the tuners on tuesday and they can sort it as it was fine before.

also had the pancake out in the process and all looks well :S

I know you said a new turbo, but was it a new unit or just new to you? Was it a genuine Skoda/VW turbo or an ebay special?

ahh sorry i forgot to say this is not "brand new" but a reconditioned unit which the garage sorted for me on an exchange deal, pretty sure its not an ebay special
