What bhp can i acheive

Featured Replies

Mods will be

New red awesome gti coil packs

Ecs coilpack clamps

THS fmic (same size as forge)

Piperx vis (same as carbonio)

Forge 007p (will be fitted with yellow spring)

Then i'll be going for a remap... Im aware a high flow cat and exhaust is preffered but it's not something im interested in doing (mot stipulations and the financial outlay)

Now i believe a stage 1 map can get 210bhp on a stock car but im sceptical how long you can use the full 210bhp for (heat soak on stock smic)

I will be going for a stage 2 map but what bhp can i acheive without the exhaust?

Cheers

your missing the point the restriction on these cars is the down pipe !!! a cooler will enable you to run more boost as it wont heat soak or cause high inlet temps but catch 22 you wont be able to ru

  • RS Tunings rr is one of the more realistic ones out there and if anything under reads. It is 300 lb ft, like I say its been fettled constantly over the last 3 years at least. Mine was 262 lb ft.

  • oops, meant to say cupra R, also as mentioned TT and r32 ones are the same

No reason why you can't get 225bhp in that state, surely... the joy of a proper intercooler is that the power will be more consistent, stronger and also won't die after a decent run through the gears.

Turbo will be the only thing stopping you after you've done the rest. :)

Interesting!

I've got similar mods (Forge FMIC, 007P, CAI and also a Cat-Back Jetex Exhaust). Is stage 2 the best option for those bits then?

I cant see you getting 225 mate sorry.

Basically the stuff your swapping is minimal. the only good things are the CAI and the IC as said it will allow the power to stay longer but the rest is not major.

TBH just get a pannel filter, the FMIC (if you must) and a zorst.  the most restrictive parts are the Cat and the DP.

Billy

Seems strange i thought id get above the 220 mark, exhaust cant be 'that' restrictive, to me the fmic is the most important part.

I had a piperx panel filter but that stock airbox looks restrictive only part on my list not fitted is the fmic....

Suppose i'll find out what the stock exhaust can do come remap / rr day

Shows you dont know Whats best for mo?e power then !!! A front mount doesnt add power !!!

Dp is the key to mo?e power the standard unit is a massive restriction

Red coil packs no benifit

Coil hold downs no benifit

Cai no benifit over panel filter

Forge dv good as standard fails

Front mount good to keep intake tempa low

Your ?ar is ready for stage 1 not 2 dp is needed for stage 2

If you Didnt waste money on red Coil packs and the bolt downs you could have brought a decat pipe ;-)

Okay i know nothing....

Coilpacks were bought as it had missfires, clamps were bacause coil packs can pop out

I dont want a decat, i like passing mot's

What about a sports cat then? 100 or 200 cell.

What are the key differences between the 180bhp and 225bhp versions of the engine? I know twin SMICs are involved, but what else is crucially missing?

Too much coin £480 for a milltek cat!

Tbh i'll be happy with sustainable power due to a decent cooler!

I got 225bhp

On a apr stage 2

But that said i do have the forge fmic

Milltek d/pipe cat and all

What happens if you get a stage 2 remap without say the milltek ???

What if you keep your nose out for a second hand milltek down n cat jase ?

Tbh it will be a custom map so it will be neither stage 1 or stage 2....

It will be custom! So time will tell even if i only get 210/215 it will still be better than turning up in a boggo vrs and whacking a map on

your missing the point the restriction on these cars is the down pipe !!!

a cooler will enable you to run more boost as it wont heat soak or cause high inlet temps but catch 22 you wont be able to run bigger boost as you have a massive bottle neck on the exhaust!!!!

you need to move the exhaust gases out as fast as possible!!!

so was it a coil pack that was faulty?? coil bolt downs not needed just make a nick in the rubber and this will stop them popping up ;-)

who is doing the custom map then???

if they run high boost and get you 225+ you will just create massive egt around the turbo and that will only cause one thing !!!! failure trust me I KNOW !!!!

im not giving you advise because i want to be a pain im telling you because ive been there seen it and wasted money!!!

anyway up to you

What about a sports cat then? 100 or 200 cell.

What are the key differences between the 180bhp and 225bhp versions of the engine? I know twin SMICs are involved, but what else is crucially missing?

bigger turbo

bigger injectors

different intercooler setup

different map

different fuel pump

different engine compression ratio

different internals

to name just a few lol

p.s why dont you buy a cheap ebay decat pipe and weld your oem cat into it as the cat is not the main restriction !!!

the main restriction is the pipe from turbo to cat you will see why when you take it off!!!!!!!!!!

Yes faulty coilpack

Tbh im just happy with sustainable power, i get heat soak at 180bhp on the stock smic, yes its probably gunked up but its something i want to change, ran a stage 2 and 3 pd130 and fmic was the best thing i did for it, useable power 100% of the time. :)

you also need to add a catch can to your list this is imo one of the first mods anyone should do regardless of power upgrades

intercoolers full of oil = not efficient.

Whereabouts would you install a catch can? Upgrading to FMIC very soon so may as well do that.

there is a guide somewhere on here but basically you take the pipe from crank breather and rocker breather and run them into a catch can before it then goes back into the inlet system ;-)

think bowders or rob have done a how to

hth

Oh and map will either be r tech or shark?

Dont want a catch can, couldnt be jiggered to clean it out, done a lot of mods to previous cars but i just want simple... And oem :)

nick at r-tech will look after you mate and will also inform you whats best with your setup!!! his maps are fully custom but im sure you will benifit massively by putting a cheap decat pipe on with your cat welded onto it trust me it will make a massive difference ;-)

230 to 240 on tap sound good with launch control and full throttle shifting whoop whoop

p.s as you have modded other cars you should realise how important a catch can is!!! your fitting a £££ front mount these cars breath heavy with oil particles !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Full throttle shifting?? I used to do that in my old teg engined ek9 lol.... Dont thinkit was good for clutch gbox etc!

Sounds a bit extreme? Would rtech be able to bodge the dp to cat for me?

On my fabia vrs i vented the crank case to atmosphere... Can i do that on the octy too?

My pd130 golf vented to atmos

Im good with the diesels just not too clued up on the 1.8t this is my first one

I was looking at 100 cell cats on ebay yesterday, not that expensive really, ebay down pipe with a 2.5in 100 cell sports cat welded into it and your away or maybe a 200 if your bothered about getting it though mot without having to get it red hot first
