Mk2 octy mirrors on mk1 octy (finally on)

Featured Replies

Well after running around for a while with odd mirrors on i have finally got around to doing the drivers side and both are fitted up and working but they did need a bit of work to get them to fit so if you like them then don't go logging onto ebay and buy some then complain they dont fit as phisically they are very different and mount completely different and wiring isnt plug and play but they can be made to fit as i have done but they are by no means perfect as i'm no expert in body repair and if need be i will eventually get a friend of mine to do a better job of them when he fills over the wing repeater holes but they will do for now but they are wired up so movement, heating, indicators and puddle lights are all functional :)

anyway heres some pics, comments welcome good or bad

Good job, it is a mk1 base crossed with a mk2 mirror?

No its the mk2 base that has been modified by making a baseplate from plastic sheet and drilling bolts through the mk2 mirror then fibreglassing and filling to cover holes and shape it then after smooting it i've painted the base with a textured paint to try and make it look factory

Very good work there sir :)

Would never thoughts possible m8, looks really good well done that's a nice mod

Well there you go, it's does as I couldn't tell.

looks oem - well done, very nice

I like that a lot, nice work. I have thought about doing something similar a few times but suspected it wouldn't be easy.

Will you be at Elsecar with this tomorrow as I'd like to have a look at them. Look really good, proper OEM+

Cheers for the comments and yes i'm at elsecar,my car is parked up in the gravel car park opposite the show entrance :)

Looks really good mate good job :) really wanted to do this as love the puddle lights, maybe 1 day

Good job looks real nice

loving the OEM look, i was thinking about using the wrc (DTM) one's.

I would be tempted to tint the indicators so it looks flush but then when you indicate....

I do quite like this mod though.

If you don't mind me asking? How much do you pay for the mirriors? And is there any wiring required?

I got the pair for just under £50 and yes the wiring is different too aswell as the shape and fitment of the base but the hardest part was the physical fitment, the wiring was a case chopping off the mirrors wiring plug and fitting my own plug then soldering onto existing door loom leaving plug intact in case i ever needed to swap them back and then just put a female plug on the wires i'd soldered on so it can still be unplugged and indicator wires were ran through the doors into the car and the puddle lights were connected off the door light wiring through a relay :)

Does that mean it comes on only when the doors opened? I was messing with mine and I found that the interior lighting is done by a switched earth, I'm thinking that if you connect them to the wire that goes from the CCU and a permanent live under the dash you could get them to come on when you unlock the doors. Plus it won't come on when you turn the interior lighting on for any reason

Yes I've just wired it so when you open the door they come on and only wired them in as they were there as I don't see myself needing them anyway and just used the negative trigger wire from the door catch to switch a relay to put positive to the puddle light

Hey, wouldnt happen to still have the mk2 would you?

Very nice mod, i think you are the first one on here to do this  .

They look too good to leave sticking out when you park up anywhere. Auto parking would be another nice mod to have on the mirrors mmmm idea ??.

Car looks good by the way

The cars changed a little sine those pics lol

But it was the only octavia I'd ever seen with mk2 mirrors modified to fi.

There no longer on the car and are in the loft in a box somewhere.
