Knocking rattle NSR wheel arch 55 1.9TDi Estate

Featured Replies

Hi, I took the car out yesterday and a knocking started from the NSR wheel arch, it got so bad I stopped the car, took rear wheel off and checked all the important stuff was still attached before abandoning the excursion and heading back home. It sounds like the shocker has worked loose at the top end, had both rears replaced recently. Telephoned garage today and mechanic is leaving for holiday aaargh!!! We need our car.

Also the rear washer water leaks out beneath this corner below the weel arch bumper area. I am wondering if there is a washer pump in there and it has worked loose. I'm going to have to get the spanners out and get the wheel arch lining off to get a good look, any clues to help me on my way? Jonny

Broken rear spring maybe???

I have just had the same washer fluid leak on my 55 plate estate. You need to remove the trim from the boot side panel as there is a join in the washer pipe behind there which is leaking. There is a drain hole that lets the leaking fluid out. You need to do this quickly as it will be leaking all over the electrical multiplugs for the rear lights, wiper etc. If you take a look on vrsStu's website (?) there is a guide for fitting a towbar that shows you how to remove the trim, which is a bit involved to say the least.

Just noticed that you say you have had both rear shocks replaced recently - they have possibly disturbed this pipe in the process. Mine was still clipped together fine, but was letting a small amount leak when the rear wash was operated. A good dry out and then a smear of silicone sealant seems to have done the trick :-)
