has anyone used Wynns EGR cleaner for petrol engines

Featured Replies

Has anyone used Wynns EGR cleaner as my EGR has thrown the EML and was wondering is it worth it.

It supposedly says spray it into the Air intake at around 3500 RPM. Is this an easier way to clean it rather than removing the EGR itself.

By the way i have a 1.4 16v fabia if that helps.

F*k that

I took my whole manifold and intake off myself, big job to remove, but it runs like a dream after a thorough clean up of the EGR and manifold.

Just standard inlet and manifold cleaner did the job.

Soon emptied a whole can of it though, wish I'd bought two so maybe its better to use diesel or petrol or something ( I don't know what is most appropriate ).

This is after 6 years large mileage use from new though, wouldn't rush to do it again I can tell you.

how hard is it to do the job and how long will it take.

What EGR related fault codes are getting logged? If its just "low flow" or something like that, then its not likely that its the EGR valve that needs cleaning, but the throttle body end of the EGR pipe - or more probably, judging by my experience, the ports in the interface plate or the throttle body where that EGR pipe connects to and the crankcase gasses gets drawn through.

On my old Fabia diesel I take the EGR valve off every 6 months and clean it with some Gunk. Cleans everything from anything (including oily hands!).
