Boot popper

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, just a quick question about the boot popper on my 2005 VRS.

Is there anyway to make it open with more force? At the moment when I press the button on the key fob, all it does is release the latch slightly, and I still have to open it manually, which seems a bit pointless to me.

Is there anyway I can make it open fully by using the key fob?

Thanks

(Side question: I only got my VRS on saturday so still learning stuff, is there a middle box in the centre of the exhaust? If so do many people take it out? Does it give a deeper sound?)

This is how the popper works. Imagine popping the boot in high wind at force. It will rip the bootlid clean off it's hinges!

Yeah this is all its meant to do - my old Audi S4 was the same.

We don't own a Rolls, its VAG....

There is a long ongoing thread about this.. think its called "auto boot - completed". Except for the fact that it isn't completed :D

The basic jist is to install some springs on the gas struts to make it pop that extra few inches upwards then the struts will do the rest. however the specific springs are quite difficult to get right.. I tried the Ford Valve springs a long time ago and they didnt work. they have specs i think on the thread on what lbs and spring length etc but will need to find a supplier.

The downside of this is that it may stress the gas struts more, and also accidentally taking your boot or someone out if you press it at the wrong moment. Most boot with poppers only opens boot upwards, not outward and upwards.
