Driver power -Number One

Featured Replies

I just bought the magazine. Why I ask you do people still buy French cars?!?!!? The Build Quality and reliability section is topped by the Yeti out of 100 cars. Yet at the bottom five is from last spot: 100 Renault Megane MkII, 99 Renault Scenic MKII, 98 Peugeot 307, 97 Citroen C4 MKI, 96 Peugeot 206... So the bottom five cars are French with the highest ranking French car only at number 48 - the Megane MKIII.

But as ever these owner questionnaires are weird things in my book. If you have not driven the other 99 cars how can you say your car's ride is X or Y relative to other vehicles? How can the Yeti with is removable and reconfigurable rear seats fall from 9th best in Practicality in 2011 to 18th spot this year? Yet the Mondeo MKIV which have normal dead standard flip down seats beats it for practicality?! See how I mean these surveys are not worth much in my book. Interesting to see the rankings and to be number 1 for sure, but if you were to do a study of the same car over five years or so the results will be very interesting. Just see how previously popular cars drop in the ratings over the years even though the car itself has not changed. Eh? So the ONLY reason it goes down in the ratings is that owners get bored and have a suspicion their car can't be top notch in this or that any more and then vote accordingly over the years. Even though it is exactly as practical or whatever as the day they bought it!

So take all the ratings with a HUGE pinch of salt I say.

Very sensible Johann, and quite correct.

Nonetheless YETI YETI YETI ... BEST BEST BEST!!

Just remember, not that long ago, the Japanese ruled most of the surveys. Look at those one time favourites now - Jazz, Civic, Yaris, Micra, Lexus IS etc.

Best enjoy it while it lasts.

Jazz, Civic, Yaris and Lexus IS have all provided good quality and much liked vehicles-my lexus was bulletproof and although I don't personally want the others I can see why others do.The micra is an uninteresting device but seems long lived and cherished by those I see around.

It is important to separate out the worthy from the desirable-Autoexpress is not where connoisseurs go for a thoughtful appraisal of excellence but rather where people who often pay for their own mobility rate it.

Well put Johann, but 'we' may as well bask in the glory, and not just the Yeti but the whole brand.

And ditto to Bobdog

The amazing story that is Yeti, just goes on and on.

My Monster is approaching its third birthday and yet I still regularly get people asking me about my car.  I have never experienced this for as long after a cars launch as this fantastic machine.

I remember a lot of interest when I bought an MG Metro on the day of its launch, the same again with a Peugeot 205GTi a few years later and then again with Mrs Ts Roomster.  But the interest seemed to subside after a few months.

I should probably be on commission from Skoda as a number of people I have spoken to have now bought their first Skoda, all of them Yetis.  The level of interest will undoubtedly increase again with this first placing.

Well done Skoda.

Did I mention I get mine tomorrow?

Thanks for that! Aren't some of those owners in that video actually Briskodians?! I thought I remember seeing something on here about someone being interviewed by Auto Express?

Aha! It is RogN that is in the video!!! Well done Rog!

Sort of makes me realise that I really need to change my VRS-LE Estate to a Superb CR170 4x4 Elegance Estate at next vehicle change.

Definatley getting more popular on the roads, seeing Yetis all the time now!
