Noise from grooved disc brakes

Featured Replies

Since installing grooved discs the car has developed a weird noise while driving on the straight and gets louder when I put my foot on the break :wall: .Does anyone else have the same problem???

I`m using EBC discs and Mintex pads.

attached a pic to show how I fit them.is it the right way?

thanks

Mine are noisier than normal brakes when the brake is applied but silent when not using the brake.

Yours sounds like they're binding.

Did you change the back ones also?

I have replaced all discs and pads and cleaned/greased everything in the process :) Just hear this annoying buzzing noise when window down. When just slightly touching brake it becomes louder.Never had drilled and grooved discs before so don`t know whether they should make this noise or not....

OR ARE THE DISCS THE OTHER WAY AROUND????

wouldn't have thought there should be any noise when you're not using the brakes, but isn't it obvious there would be at least some noise when you are?

They r normali fitted the otha way round mate

They're the right way. Well mine are that way anyway.lol.

This has been discussed before and apparently there is no right or wrong way.

cheers

but i'm so confused now

I always thought fitting them the "wrong way" round increased braking but severly increased wear

Lol. Leave them as they are, they're fine.

Sounds about right to me.

if they r fine what`s the noise then?

Could be new pads just bedding in catching on the holes and grooves, pads may not be super smooth yet??? Just a thought.

Thanks Funky Fab-where did ur other post disappear? lol

I put my mind to rest for now-at least for today and see how i get on after a few miles

My wife almost got a heartattack after telling her i will b working on the car at the weekend AGAIN :)

Here it is. I put it up but then seen your question, thought I'd answer that first. lol

If you look at the drivers side of the car the grooves would normali go back over on them

Selfs this is what i was told by ebc themself when i worked for a garage thay suplied these brakes

You sure they are genuine EBC discs and pads?????.....They have lots more dimples and grooves than the discs that I have seen them do!! As a matter of fact they are moving away from lots of grooves and dimples as this causes lots of rotor noise (which is what you are getting)!!!!!

And yes they are fitted the correct way around!!!

B)

I believe that's the right way for EBC but strangely some Red Dot disc's are the other way round, either way don't worry about it. Personally I gave up on dimpled/grooved a long time ago as they made bugger all difference in my application and produced more noise/wore pads quicker but that's another story :)

The pads are Mintex, and the discs I was told EBC which i got off Ebay. i contacted EBC themselves re fitting them, but they suggesting they r NOT Ebc ones :wall: just like u asking....

Just messaged the guy on ebay for a proof of purchase or sg ,so have to wait a bit and see :@

thanks for all ur opinions.might put up a thread asking what people think they r.......

This is what the EBC discs should look like.

I know the thread is from 2004, but I don't think the disc design has changed since then. Those ones are grooved and dimpled, not drilled.

The noise is i'm afraid a consequence of grooved discs.

Whirring noise, humming noise, is just something you'll have to put up with mate. The noise will be there even when not on the brakes, but of course get louder as you press on the brake pedal. The noise is comming from the grooves as they pass the pads, some pads are louder than others however. But it's not something I'd worry about now. Just start getting used to it!
