Octavia cr vrs re map

Featured Replies

Has anyone used Pendle Performance for remapping a cr vrs. I know there are sponsors on here and also know he has a very good reputation. They are very near to me and so I was just wondering if anyone has any reports service, torque gained. Mpg and value for money etc as it would be a large outlay for me. Thanks in advance

Speak to Ben at Shark first - he will fill you in with regard to remapping a CR as it may require cracking the ECU open....

...and he will do a brilliant job, I've been running one of his first mapped CR170's in my Octy VRS, it absolutely flies and will easily see 50-55mpg on the motorway at between 70 and 80mph! as wardth says though the ecu does need to be opened, 45k miles later and mine is non the worse off for it!

Depends on the age of your CR. My CR didn't need the ECU taking out - Ben did it all via the OBD port. Oh and he did a very good job by the way. :)

My old CR was remapped via obd port by SP tuning near Leicester. My advice is seek the views of people who have experienced different maps on the same car variant. All maps seem good when you haven't got anything to compare them to.

Agreed on this front. Before I had mine mapped I had the 'pleasure' of driving a Leon FR CR 170 that the owner had just had mapped and it felt almost like my PD map on the fabia - lots of lag, followed by huge tyre shredding lump of torque which then fell off a cliff at 4k rpm. Awful.

I then got mine done at Shark with Ben and I mentioned to him how linear it was in comparison to his Leon. He then went and got a newer map applied by the same guy and saw a vast improvement in torque curve and thus driveability, and his tyres are lasting longer. :)

Remapping is the way forward IIRC it was around October 2010 that saw the change from being able to remap the CR's via OBDII port and requiring the open brain surgery.

Sorry to put the dampner on this but mine is an April 2010 VRS!! so at lest 6 month earlier.

Cheers for the replies guys mine is dec 2009 so does that mean it won't need ecu removing and can be done via Obd

Hardly a dampener lol There were people reporting randomly on here for different 2010's not allowing threw OBDII but it seemed to draw a definitive line in Oct never heard of anyone getting away with it after then :(

I know of a Skoda dealer that remap using revo for 399 including VAT

They honour the warranty too

It's around a 58 plate that you get the cut off in OBD in mine and Bens experience. I did a 58 plate superb CR 170 via OBD and Ben had to take the ecu out on another 58 plate.

It does depend in how long the cars have sat about before being registered though.

At my guess though a 2010 will be ecu out.

Speak to Rob and Mikko at Shark and they can advise you.

Hi All

I spoke to a guy about remmapping the Jan 2010 VRS CR 170 and he said he would need to remove the ecu and send it away for a few days.

He said a box would be better. Is a box better or a remap???

Whare is Shark and how much do they take for a remap?

If the ecu has to come out, how quickly can it be done?

Cheers

Dave

I wouldn't touch whoever you spoke to with a barge pole. I wouldn't use a tuning box as they are usually cheap bits of rubbish. Invest properly and get the remap is my advice. Any reputable tuner should be able to do it whilst you wait. Give REVO a call.

Revo or Shark for me, personally i would go Shark for a diesel and Revo for petrol.

Ok, had my first major service done the other day, and the first major service done since the map and it's made a massive difference to MPG.

Replaced all the filters (oil, air, pollen, fuel) which is something Skoda only wanted to do at 60k whereas this was done at 40k as I refuse to accept they can last that long - the result have spoken for themselves.

So with a combination of the map and a good service - I now see 300 miles to half a tank when driving normally, that's booting it every now and again and tootling round otherwise with a mixture of motorway, A road and town. Yet to see full brim figures but at that rate (if the needle is anything to go by) it's 49mpg. Before the service it was early 40's.

So it goes to show even with a map, and with the power being used quite regularly it can still be more than reasonable on fuel providing the car is well maintained.
