SDI ved banding question.

Featured Replies

Hi, my OH has an SDI comfort estate and the annual road tax is £95 (100 now after the recent budget I think) but whenever I search the autotrader I seem more often than not to find SDI's have road tax of £120 a year.

The discrepancy seems to come from the co2 levels of 130g/km and 132g/km being quoted.

Is there any way of finding out which years/models will be in the lower rating other than looking on the logbook? The websites also seem to quote slightly better fuel consumption figures for the models with lower tax too.

I've just checked parkers website guide for ved bands and it shows ALL SDI fabias as having 132g/km and £120 a year tax.

Confused.com!!!!

Both my 03 plate are 130g/km and £95.

Just had a thought, I used to pay £120, then the banding changed.

Found this http://www.car-emiss...m/cars/view/368

I think Parkers are just wrong and all the traders follow what it says without looking at what tax is on the car or the logbook.

my 2000 sdi hatch is over £200 a year to tax. if it was registers about 3 month later it would only be £120 iirc.

parkers is decent to check tax prices i think, gives you the choices of model & age.

You might as well get the answer straight from the horse's mouth

Choose vehicle enquiry, input manufacturer and reg plate. Definitive answer!

thanks for the replies.

Hutch. Yes I think your car was registered before the new emissions data came in so its just a simple engine size based taxation.

Benatron. Thanks....their site is down at the moment but will use that! Its odd that the same vehicles seem to have differing co2 emissions. Doesn't seem to vary due to aircon either (which was my first theory). In fact it seems to have little rhyme or reason to it at all in fact. I'm still bemused. I might ring skoda this week and see if they can shed any light on it.

I've got a 2002 and it's £95 a year tax. As mentioned above. your best bet is the DVLA online vehicle enquiry.

I've just checked the Technical specs booklet for my 2 SDIs. These show the emissions as 130-132. Has anyone actually got an SDI which is tax band E £120 as opposed to D £100 (this years rates)?

I'm not convinced that any SDIs are registered as 132 with the higher tax band.

Theres a few advertised on ebay as being £65 for 6 months tax so they do exist.

Just gonna go rummage through the draw for the OH's logbook and see what it says. 130gm/km on hers which is a comfort estate registered september 2003

Both of these are currently listed on ebay and a check with DVLA says they are the same tax and DVLA also quotes 130g/km for both vehicles. I'll keep my eyes on ebay for the next one that quotes £120 a year tax (sods law says I can't currently find one!) and then cross reference it with DVLA. Thanks all.

I'm not convinced that they do, I've checked 7 cars registration that are on ebay of varying ages against the DVLA website and they all come back as 130g/km, £100 tax.
