vRS attracting too much negative attention

Featured Replies

Had my Skoda 6 months now and I'm starting to get concerned how other road users act towards it.

Anyone else get this? I'm seriously thinking about selling it due to this.

I dont know if its because its a Skoda or if its the vRS badge? (perhaps debage it?) In my younger days I had a Nova SR and a Corsa GSi and none of them attracted the bawbags my current Skoda does.

Eh?? In what way are you getting negative attention?

Never had any problems in my 7 1/2 years of ownership but then, i don't really care too much what other road users might think of me or my car, just so long as i'm driving safely and i still love my car. :)

Aggressive tailgating mainly - from folk who either want a race or who must have been offended by a Skoda overtaking them.

People drive like ****s and tailgate me if i`m in the fabia, fiesta, zafira, a bus whatever. In fact I get the least hassle in the fabia tbh

I started a thread a while ago about this exact thing, fed up with idiots trying it on to get a race.http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/229610-does-the-vrs-badge-attract-trouble/page__fromsearch__1

Wondered if it was the vrs badge too.

Interestingly i see your from north ayrshire,im in east kilbride so must be a west coast thing :D

i agree that lots of people drive like ****s, but my point is driving the same route as I have the last 7 years I'm now encountering a lot more bad and aggressive driving. The only thing that has changed is I'm now in a Fabia vRS.

it's because loads of Fabia vRS drivers think they're in fast cars, can't get that TopGear video out of their heads and want to race everything on the road so a certain type of driver is attracted to them for a potential race?

Never have any problems with negative attention or tailgaters in mine...

Sorry, you've lost me there. So if im driving sensibly and someone decides to try it on or tailgate me,then its my fault?

I have no exhaust sticking out the back of mine, so perhaps looks very subtle from the back. No badges either? Never really get any trouble - and that's in 8 years.

I think I will take the vRS badge off the boot - see if that improves things.

VRS badge removals got to be worth a try, occasionally get the odd knob head round my way try it on in there Saxos, Corsas, Leons lol. Half the time I just can't be bothered with them lol.

Its the whole look of the car not just a little plastic badge that tells people its a vrs. removing a badge wont change a thing just sounds like you have a lot of boy racers around your way. i just slow down abit if they dont overtake or drop back then slow abit more then if they are still up your rear a quick jab on the brakes normaly sh*ts them up haha.

Best thing to do, squeeze that right foot of yours! Goodbye Mr tailgating corsa.

Do it to me too always tailgating but that's the norm these days. My Octy is de badged but just 1.9 and I don't encourage these ****s at all and would rather they just pass me.

To the OP I think it's just an everyday thing now and not the fact it's a Skoda or a VRS.

I find a gear change up and a gob full of smoke usually does the trick! lol

Or just do the right thing... get my foot down and give them a red face as they can't keep up! lol

Perhaps thats why the original poster thinks he/she is starting to get concerned how other road users act towards it.

Indeed, plenty of people around here seem to tailgate very closely - quite often close enough for me not to be able to see any of the bonnet (only the windscreen) in the rear-view mirror. Just seems to be the way people drive generally, especially if you're unwilling to exceed the speed limit. The other day, I did see someone in a BMW following a Honda Jazz by about half a car length ... at 60mph. :(

I always hit the headlamp washers when they get too close!

I've actually noticed much less attention in the Fab. Especially with the winter steel wheels on.

I am however coming from an ST Focus and a Racing Blue Clio 182 with two garish white stripes and a VERY loud exhaust!

Oh and I really don't think it's vRS specific. I get the same even in my normal looking saloon.

Phil

Once in a while I get something like this... Not so often it's made me feel victimised, though...

When I 1st had the car I'd boot it... but that just gives them what they want.. so now I stick my "speed limit" ground... If they wanna break the limit they can go around me..

I normally find, like mentioned above.. if they're reeeeeally close then giving the screen a long wet wash makes them drop back. I'd like to think that sometimes this makes them realise just how close they really are.

When my mate 1st passed we went out in my Renault 5.. I lent it him to help him out of a jam.. anyway, he had a draft up his leg so bent down to move his trousers or something and nearly hit a parked car... We'd had a golf up our behind for ages but suddenly, after the near miss.... the golf dropped waaaaaaaaaaay back.... Can't think why, lol.

Definately get a lot of it in East Ayrshire, always seems to be BMW drivers that tailgate, I just wait till the national speed limit sign and then hit the fast pedal (up to the legal limit) and that normally sends the message. End of the day if worst comes to worst and they run into the back of you, its them that are liable and will be forking out the cash, not that I'm condoning what they are doing, some people just lack for manners.

I find if you dab the brake works !
