Temperamental Engine Prob

That's handy to know and probably explains why mine keeps coming on occasionally - with my pattern of driving it's probably hovering around the 25% mark most of the time.

Notwithstanding Silver's comment about a good blast not necessarily doing the trick, the moor road between Pickering and Sleights has to be one of the best places to have a blast, if only for the hell of it!

What Silver said would tie-in with what the dealer told me when they replaced faulty sensor and did a manual regen - drive the car harder in general, so that you produce less soot in the first place. As the DPF is supposed to be an environmental piece of kit, to reduce particulates emissions, having to drive a DPF car harder so that it doesn't clog up (thus using more fuel) seems a bit counter-productive.

You live near me then? Sleights to Pickering road is not really ideal as it has sharp corners, the idea is to keep the revs at a steady 2000rpm +

I find the Whitby to Guisborough alot better, the more a smooth running road and late on at night its dead (other then some crazy lady in a blue Octy vRS :hi: ) can do 99% of the road at 70mph in 5th gear that will clear our your dpf no problem

I wonder How many miles at a constant speed it enough to empty it out?

Depends on how full it is. If you go out straight away after the light has come on it should only take about 10 miles. Iv left mine for a few miles with the light on (i had no choice) and it pretty much took twice as long to get off, once that light comes on they fill up, quick!

To be honest, if the light comes on i don't bother to take it out or do anything out of the ordinary. It just seems to sort itself out eventually. That said, if I wasn't doing ANY reasonable speed/distance driving at all then I probably would think about a special trip just to do a regen.

Yeah, near Helmsley.

I was talking about a nice driving road, rather than a good one to clear the DPF! Don't drive it as much as I used to, but my favourite bits are the dips near Lockton and the narrow bridge/hairpin bend near Fylingdales. Too many tourists about at the minute for it to be a clear run, and they're just a bit unpredictable. Lost nerve a bit driving fast at night - red Forester was fine but silver Scout seems to be a bldy magnet for deer to try and jump on the bonnet.

Yeah the sleights to pickering road is good but my mate crashed on there not too long ago so i have not been on it since. Some good over taking spots on there though :)

Its not advised to leave the light if you know it will not be cleared asap, when my car was in at dealerahip there was another octy there getting the DPF cleaned due to the owner ignoring the light

Ema how has ur dpf got so bad or is it just a rare enough case?

I think mine is just a rare case but iv got another problem with it which could be forcing oil into the DPF, following that up today

Been doing some research and for the sake of £300 i might get a Miltek DPF replacement pipe. Bin all the crap then get it mapped at the same time.

Didn't know u could get a replacement pipe any link?

Im not going to bother with a delete pipe, just taking out the internals of mine then weld it back up.

Although if anyone finds a pipe for less then £150 let me know :)

Fuel filter changed today, so we'll see how it runs tomorrow.

Filter was stinking with black sludge so at least it's been doing it's job. Had to leave the EGR as my mate has my spline kit

It's a Miltek pipe ffs. Buy it from another dealer if you don't like JBS....simples

FFS? Really required?

Nothing was mentioned about the Milltek product at all. Use that if you like.

Re-read the post.

So, back to my original problem.

It's gone!! Change of fuel filter has cured it. Car has run sweet as a nut since the change. No lumpy idle, smooth in every gear, smooth when accelerating in 6th etc etc.

The old filter was thick with sludge and black, which was a bit of a shock for only 40k. But I suppose Skoda do say to change every 40k.

Best £11 i've spent in a while.
