Remap 2011 VRS CR TDI

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

anyone had any dealings with the VW Center in Peasley Cross St Helens Merseyside ?? They are the nearest to me for remaps [shark may be the best but well too far away] They have quoted me over the phone £295 for a stage 1 remap taking my Octy from 170bhp to 240bhp.... plus another £50 to activate cornering front fogs. Does all of this sound feasable/reasonable???? Thanks in anticipation

£295 for a stage 1 remap sounds reasonable. I'd also ask how they plan to do it as I thought that all the latest Octavias had a tamper-proof ECU that wouldn't accept changes to the original specification via the OBD port. The remap having to be done by taking the chip out of the ECU and physically replacing it with a new one.

That is unless someone who has had it done can prove me wrong!! Might be worth a search as I'm sure the subject has been covered before.

240bhp on the diesel?.........me thinks not? Of course I could be wrong and usually I am!

I would say if it was me and my car, I would go to somewhere that has good reviews and customer service, it may cost more and you may have to travel further but its probably worth it for the piece of mind. I'm a firm believer in if in doubt dont.

Are you sure it's not 204bhp for a stage 1. 240 sounds very high for TDi.

+1 it can't be done anymore without physically opening up the ECU, to my knowledge no chips are changed but the remap has to be written 'through the backdoor' so to speak - not an easy job and I have heard rumours that some re-mappers actually send their customers ECU's off to Shark for them to do them, not sure if there is any truth in this?

£50 for two minutes worth of code changing ....... bargain (not)

Have you checked the VCDS section on here for someone local to you for switching the corner lights on? Its not worth £50 thats for sure. I actually turned mine off because it got annoying after everyone kept telling me i had a fog light out all the time.

Also is that 240hp a typo? If not then id walk away from these guys because that is massively unrealistic.

Yes, Gizmo is correct, type in EDC17 into the search box in the top right corner and you will find a thread started by Shark about the tuning protection.

I do not know the place sorry but if they are quoting that price and if they said 240 I would assume firstly that they don't even realise its an ECU out job and for that reason will take a lot more time if its even a custom not a generic map. Or maybe this doesn't include a dyno run to prove the mystical 240bhp. As Jonno said above we all take our chances and are aware of them when going down the remap line especially on a newer car but for that reason its worth getting it done somewhere you can be 100% confident in and trust to do it right! Cornering fogs im sure some of the proper places would prob just do it for free if your getting the map from them anyway! Main dealer would also more than likely be cheaper! Again as said VCDS section will more than likely find you a helpful member who can sort it for you. magic62 sorted some bits for me like a true legend!

Although I'm doubtful of their claims, are you able to tell me if their remap is covered under warranty, what with it being provided through a VAG dealer? It might be worth it if that is the case.
