How hard to fit coilovers?

Featured Replies

Is fitting coilovers easy enough to do at home myself?

Depends how machanicaly minded you are and the tools ya have. . Took me and a mate about 4 hours, that included having to go buy some tools i dint have, but overall not too hard. . And im not that good with mechanics tbh.

A tool ya maby might not have but need is a m14 spline drive.

Get the hub spreader tool, for the love of God! Took me the span of about a week to fit coilies to my Mk4 Ibiza. Had to use a chisel to pry the fronts out in the end

Done it on my own with basic tools but didnt have the spline tool mentioned luckily my bro did. took me 1 and a half hour to do the rear, very simple and striaght forward. the front was a whole diffrrent ball game took me 6 hours, all the bolts flew out but spliting the damper from the hub unit was very stubborn couldnt get it to spread mich either but it did come. all the new parts went on nice and easy though. i gave myself a day to do it as i know i get annouyed very easy with these things so had a tea break every 20 mins haha.

I found it fairly easy, hardest part was titting the rarb. Best off using a ramp makes everything much easier and a spare jack to lift the hubs into place

When we fitted mine on my VRS there was 2 of us working in it - and it was on a 4 poster with air tools - 45 minutes all done!

The joys of a hub spreader that makes the damper just fall out of the hub.

couldnt find one anywhere rang vw, skoda and seat and the local gmf and all none of them new what i was on about.

Give them the part number and they can order you one.
