  • Well I learnt a new amazing technique last night!! It's called............giving a crap! Essentially if you take more time and care more about the outcome the results seems to be loads better! Craz

  • Id say do the red, but then I'm a little bit odd when it comes to wheels as you know.

Like a white car, a pain to keep clean :)

I haven't attempted yet lol! Dirt comes off v easily though, light brush of a finger would do it. maybe smooth hammerite surface doesn't like dirt? But you can see the dirt forming within a week.. so.. its not great..

Yeah good idea.

You're probably right.

I mean you can't get a good idea looking at pictures anyway .......to B&Q and/or Halfords I go :D

Cliff.... PLEASE GO GOLD!!

Yes Sam... cos that'll convince me! :D

I've rushed through priming one wheel so i can do a test.....

but have also bottled it and had silver & black centres made up

Pah, don't be sheepish. Sparkling gold looks exciting

oooh sparkly!! Doo it! Would be ace on a sunny day

  • Author

well a did take a trip to B&Q on the way home and the sparkly glitter stuff above is actually just a clear top coat with glitter in. I might be tempted to do plain colour and then use the glittery lacquer to add interest....

...that didn't stop me purchasing a test can of gold spray paint though.

Technically the lid said brass but it was more the colour i was after than the browny "gold leaf" and orangey "anique gold" options.

i also bailed on using the primed wheel as i'll have to sand the paint off anyway to finish the prep work so just slapped in on a wiped down bare metal wheel

Something so simple should not make a grown man smile so much!!

it is not :D .....quite

Cant wait for the sparkly sparkly.. :D

I think even for me sparkly gold might be too much.

Be interested to see what glittery clear coat comes out like though - might see if i can find a tin cheaper than the £8 B&Q wanted

just need a dry day at the weekend to see what it looks like on the car(s) ;)

If you find a white/pearlescent glitter coat share the love, wouldn't mind adding more depth to the white :)

Oh, I guess you know already but if you do a few more layers (with sanding) the gold should come out deeper colour and richer (i've done something similar before and couldn't believe the difference between 2 coats and 5 coats).

I've seen a pearlescent clear coat in a craft shop. Don't think it will be heavy duty enough for wheels tho!

The gold's looking good Cliff
