Fabia 1.4 tdi Estate - timing belt

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First of all, I must apologise that I'm a "background" user of this excellent forum and actually a reflection of how reliable our trusty old "stop gap" Felicia 1.3 MPI has been (apart from the usual thermostat housing changed with no problems). We bought her as a temporary stop gap but ended up using her day in day out for 6 years now.

But I needed to downsize from my very nice but now expensive to run L/R Discovery TD5 (crunch time came when I saw diesel at £1.52 a litre - so that's £152 to "fill er up" !!) and the Felicia is now starting to show her age.

Anyway - we've (I've) just bought a 2007 Fabia 1.4 tdi Estate (Bohemia) and so far, I'm really impressed - been looking for one for a few months and found one with reasonable miles (65k) and good condition inside and out.

I seem to like odd cylinders (3,5 etc) and the 1.4 tdi sounds quite raunchy (so does my TD5 with a through flow S/S exhaust !!).

The Fabia has quite a good a service history (dealer) but no timing belt change yet (It's now 5 years old but only 65k) - service book says change the belt at 120000 kilometers (74.5k miles) - engine code is a BNV (is that good?), So question is, should I wait until next service (12 months time in my case) or should I get the belt done now regardless and will any car workshop stamp the book to say timing belt done or will a receipt be ok to maintain aftermarket warranty?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I've got the same model. The timing belt intervals are 4 years and I think the PD engine is quite hard on timing belts so I would recommend you get it checked out.

Cheers,

Jonno

What he said, certainly on the 1.9s, it's now 60K or 4 years. In the sevice book, the intervals are likely a tad longer. The 4 years/60K thing was a later Skoda advice/recommendation/requirement.

I'd say get it done sooner . Tech1e ,( Unit 18 tech) ,suggested to me 60k,I had mine done at 63k,with no problems. However,if you're not too far from MK,give them a call- it'll be pleasant surprise time over stealers. But I've found that most stealers will haggle if faced with lower prices. ( Again ,thanks to Ali at unit 18 (.I'd have gone there ,till I remembered oil had been in for a year ,and had sat still for another) . I did go the 2.5 miles to local stealer, and Ali's price gave them major shocks, especially when they heard it was well qualified VAG blokes.

BUT- with an 07 model, I can't find engine code BNV in Haynes for Skoda 2000-2006, you might want to move this to the MK2 forum. But I'd suggest the same reply- get it done. Cmbelt/idlers /waterpump go =new engine .
