New clutch, feels rubbish

Featured Replies

Had a new DMF and LUK clutch kit fitted for about 1k now and to be honest from the day i drove it away it has this annoying grating feel to the pedal but no noise what so ever, however the problem is not all the time as some days you can drive it the 20 miles to work and it'll be perfect. It also seems have no feel to it with regards to pulling off and bringing the pedal up after a gear change which i dismissed as user error as I was used to the old dead clutch but I'm now starting to think otherwise. Also did a hillstart today which started the grating feel off??

Just wondered if anyones had the same problem and if so what was it. The clutch is warrantied for 12k miles which is one of the reasons i didn't go for the G60 SMF and VR6 clutch conversion.

Cheers

Josh

Could be a DMF issue.

Was it a Skoda dealer or an indy that fitted it?

Did they use the OE LUK clutch/DMF kit bought from Skoda then? They aren't cheap! There are some cheapo aftermarket kits available, which you want to avoid.

I'd be taking it back to the garage.....

The grating sounds abnormal. But the total lack of clutch feel when pulling away and changing gear is characteristic of a DMF. so nothing to be concerned about.

As a side note, my G60/VR6 setup has done 28k miles, and still feels like new. Sorry to rub salt in the wound!!

Thats what I thought about the lack of feel as i was used to the biteyness of my Fabia VRS clutch. It wasnt a Skoda dealer as they quoted £800 wheareas the garage i went to charged me £650, should have been about £600 but they found a seal that was leaking so replaced that at the sametime.

They said they used an OE LUK clutch kit and DMF but you never know with these garage really.

It's been back once already as i had the throttle bodies cleaned and reset cause it had the horrible surge and drop in power at low revs, but the lad that took it out said that he couldn't feel anything and to be honest my dads drove it too and he said it was ok, however its an irritating intermitent problem just like the surging that no one else could feel :/

WIll just run it for a bit and see what happens, but to be honest if I had the chance i'd rip it out and try the G60/VR6 setup I think.

Thanks for the input matey

i had a similar random feeling on my vrs which i put down to the D/M.

after converting to G60 the problem was still there.

anyway i stripped down the pedal box and replaced the master clyinder along with greasing the clutch pedal spring pivot points and never had the problem since.
