Air Conditioning Problem

Featured Replies

Hi,

My Air Conditioning on my Octavia VRs diesel stopped working about a month ago, within the used Skoda Warrantee period. I have taken the car to my local Skoda dealer to determine whether this type of fault was covered by the warrantee, on the assumption it wasn't just in need of a re-gas, which it was. I was advised that I had to pay for diagnosis, not sure if this is right / fair if the fault is covered by a warrantee? Anyway, the diagnosis was that the compressor had failed. The garage advised that Skoda require the system to be flushed prior to fitting a new compressor, to do this they need to replace the reciever dryer which is incorporated in the condensor. Does anyone know if this is a requirement? Also, if this is a requirement, surely this should be part of the resolution through the warrantee. I am being told that the warrantee will not cover this cost, £430. Again, is this correct? Has anyone had similar experience?

Any help much appreciated.

Yes - they need to recover the gas, flush the system, replace the drier and regas.

This is part of the procedure for replacing the compressor - you shouldn't have to pay.

If it is under Skoda's used car warranty then you shouldn't have to pay a penny!

It's normal to pay the initial diagnostics fee but this should be refunded/not added to the bill if the fault is claimable under the warranty.

Ask to see the terms and conditions of the warranty and ask them to show you where it says the diagnostics and condensor are not covered.

Why would you need to replace the drier???? Our air-con machine at work vacuum out the system ready for the new gas. If owt should be replaced I would have thought it will be all the O seals that would be going dry from lack of use. Can anyone educate me plz

When the compressor fails there is a good chance that the system if full of bits. This includes the drier which can't be flushed

Hi. 07 Octavia Tdi Vrs: Feb this year, I noticed what sounded like a dry bearing noise from inside the dash and the aircon would not blow cold. Sometimes, the control switch seemed to have a mind of its own and would run fast or drop to slow. The garage regassed the system and everything was fine until June. Same happened again. Same process ie regassing and all ok. 2 weeks ago, it happened again. Today, I got the car back and was told that a new fan would cost c £200+VAT + fitting ie c £250.  I took it for a spin and the fan is quiet, the aircon is working. Went back to the garage and suggested that the fan cannot be at fault as it's only noisy when the system does not blow cold - presumably when it has dropped its pressure. Agreed. I was asked to run the car over the weekend and go back on Monday when they would check for a leak in the system (having used a UV dye). Any other similar experiences? Any idea where the fault/leak may be? Is this a common problem? I do like to keep the car in pristine condition but if it's going to end up being silly money, maybe it's not worth it.

Thanks :)

Oh and just as an aside: I asked them to fit a new rear washer jet as it had blocked up yet again. They forgot. When I started the car and gave the rear window a squirt, I actually skooshed an old lady instead. The silly sods had taken the cowling and jet out but not replaced them so the jet was like the piddling boy in Brussels ie squirting back from the car. You just can't get the staff nowadays!

I had the same dry bearing noise in my yeti a year ago. They fixed it. Then back in July I heard it again but it stopped before I called the garage. Then this week we had another warm day so I turned the climate control temp down and discovered the air con is knackered. They say it will need a new compressor this time.
