Pull the fuse?

i dont know what fuse it is as i dont have a fuse box diagram.

In the Book of St. Haynes chapter 12 .21 Power Steering is fuse F7 and it should be 5A BUT it says F7 5A Engine electronics, power steering so not sure what else won't work if you pull that fuse. This is from Haynes for Skoda Fabia MkI.

F7 is located second row from the right, second fuse down

A car with power steering that is disabled is vastly different to a car without power steering from the factory. It's about 50x heavier for a start.

Good luck trying to drive it!

I am sure you wont be able to drive it?

My Saxo had a faulty power wire and when that cut out my car was virtually undrivable.

As above, I lost PAS once (it was what convinced me to stop messing about and just order and angle sensor) and it's not at all easy or in my opinion safe to drive. I've driven cars without PAS before but this was different.

Last month my PAS pump failed and I concur it is undriveable. Straight lines are ok :) but wait until the first roundabout, required severe force to nurse it home. Thankfully it happened to me and not the wife.

If you actually need to disable it the pump is situated behind the front p/s fog light and it should be a case of unplugging the connector, you could also remove the fuse in the top of the battery cover and that would do the same job.

yup its very hard to drive.but will have to do until the weekend.i wont be driving it far or fast so will just have to live with it until then.

am getting a reconditioned rack from acs power steering on ebay anyone have any dealings with them

When mine failed it was hard around town, but quite nice on faster roads without the assistance it was much more weighted and preferable.

When mine failed I just about managed to drive it the mile to the dealers... It is NOT safe in my opinion to drive any distance.

.....and your insurance is invalid

one of the flat metal blade fuses on the top of the battery will do the job. you need 8 or 10mm socket to unscrew the wire or remove the fuse

My work's Vauxhall Combo PAS died when using it. Brought back memories of trying to drive an LDV 400 without PAS and how to steer properly.

I'm getting a squealing noise on right turns when accelerating (it's hard to describe but sounds like a slipping belt) and would like to rule out the PAS by disabling the pump temporarily just to go for a quick test drive (the problem will be evident within a few seconds and then I can turn it back on). Does anyone have any idea what would happen if I removed fuse 7 from the fuseboard? That would be the quickest, easiest to reverse change, I don't want to be crawling at the side of the road trying to get the connectors back on the pump if I can help it, part of my passenger foglight grille is blocked by the numberplate so access may not be as easy as it could be. Ta!
