octy 1.9 tdi 110 potential head gasket ?

Featured Replies

Hi all

My brothers 51 plate 1.9 tdi 110 octy has been losing/using a bit of coolant so have replaced the expansion tank as it overheated once but have noticed that there is a film of oil in the water(which only appeared after it overheated and i was wondering if this could be the headgasket.I only ask as theres no smoke coming out the back and no mayo on the oil cap.The temp gauge stays dead centre as it should so i was wondering if there could be anything other than the head that could be causing this ?The car has done 112.000 miles and the engine bay has been filthy and the water seemed a bit dirty looking at it but on my finger its clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get it to a garage with a gas analyser, ask them to check the fumes in your header tank for hydrocarbons. There is no reason they should be there unless you have combustion gasses blowing into the water meaning the head gasket has failed.

If everything is fine with the coolant then it must be leaking and maybe a good coolant system sealer would fix it for you. I would recommend k-seal.
