Sore left knee caused by console (RHD Superb)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Is it just me or do other people have trouble with their left knee pushing on the hard centre console?

This happens mostly when I negotiate right hand turns....I have always tended to move my left knee outward to counteract the sideway forces during cornering. I have done this in all my other cars and I would end up bracing the knee against the centre console.

The Superb console has a rather "sharp" edge to it and this is where the knee cap sits in my case. I doubt my other vehicles had any softer centre consoles but it is the sharp edge and the close proximity of the console of the Superb that is the culprit here.

To overcome this I have made up a leather wrapped, memory foam padded knee pad. I trialled a few prototypes and settled with two layers of thin foam on a thin aluminium backing plate that is then wrapped in leather and velcroed to the console.

The pad had to be thin otherwise it remained in constant contact with my knee and pushed the knee into a slightly uncomfortable position.

I will post some pics if anyone is interested (and I can work out how to  )

I faced this issue when I first started driving the RHD Superb in India. But eventually sorted out the issue with correct positioning of the steering wheel by adjusting it for reach and rake followed by proper positioning of the seats. Now my knee has enough space to move around without touching the centre console. I am 6'.

Never had the issue in my old Superb MK2, did 30K miles in 2 years without any knee issues.

Hi mate,

Tried that but with my short legs (173cm tall) I can't get away from the console problem when in what I consider a comfortable driving position. I have trouble with pressure on my legs if I have the seat base cranked too far up.

Never really suffered from this issue - no problems in the Superb nor other cars I've owned with consoles such as Audi A4 and Octavia

I've had both Superb's 1 and 2 and can't say that I have experience that issue. I have noticed it in other cars though.

Having the DSG model means that my left foot is always on the footrest and my knee ends up rubbing on the console too. Compared to my wife's Fabia DSG the console is much wider. I'm a short 5'6 and don't want to sit any further back than I am already.

Also being in the RHD hemisphere I'd like to see your photos. The handbrake on my other (japanese) cars have been the bigges pain to my left knee.

Hi,

I am not much taller at 173cm (5'8), but it is really the length between the foot to knee when resting on the foot rest that finds my knee pushing against the console.

The knee pad works great for me.

Nice job on the pad.

I am on my second Superb a Greenline first now I have 170 Elegence , my left leg/knee gets very stiff after driving my car and leaves me with a limp at times so my wife and family have pointed out. I love my car and dont want to or cant afford to trade in.

I am putting up with my leg/knee nearly 2 years must get it checked out. I find my leg press's up against the center console I have tried all different positions but not with the back of the seat to the floor I will be too low down with seat like this. I am 5 7 with 30inch leg. Does anyone else suffer with their left leg ???

PS make me one of your knee pads lol Pro job mate

Hi barts2,

Seriously, if you want me to organise one for you I can probably do that for a reasonable price or perhaps a step by step "how to"?. Send me a PM if you are really interested. There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable in a car on a long trip.

If you don't mind me asking MyAussieSkoda. How tall are you?
