How to get interested in my vrs again?

Recommended Posts

Oh hi yet again, it's been a while.

Owned the Fabia for about 4.5 years now.

Been off the road about half that time with broken bits etc.

Just took the turbo off yesterday to find there wasn't much left of it.

Found out the intercooler has (hopefully) acted as a sive.

I am really bored with it as it's had a hard life.

How will I get interested in it again?

Would it be bad to put a standard turbo back in it?

Never been out in a hybrid yet... is it really worth it...

Also looking for fresh ideas looks/engine wise thats hardly been done, not been done.

Need to get back in the mood.

Most VW engine now can only be bored out to +20 so to make a 2.1 you will have to have a stroked crank, which you are talking silly money for.

I think rebore is out of the question, unless parts of my turbo have gone into the cylinders, which I doubt, but I was maybe going a bit quicker than 70 when it gave up.

Yeah, I still am a bit of an alloy wheel fiend. Last count was 12 sets of rims and 4 cars, oh dear.

Thinking about compatibility of turbos though, I've been looking at different models etc over past few days to see if I could get any to work, but going back to Q7, looks like they will have electric wastegate on them. May not work. Edit : Vaccum conversion?

The car owes me next to nothing and have got a bit of spare cash that was going into my Mk1 for the summer, but that's fell through so may just go nuts on the fabia in some way to get me excited about it again, like I was when I first got it re-mapped 4 years ago.

Turbo explosion is unlikely to have got in the cylinders but its worth checkin pipework and egr, The Q7 turbo has been done ( check link ) Maybe give Jabba sport a call they seem to like going nuts on fabias other than that I'm all out of Ideas (sorry) :(

Cool, thanks for the link, i'll have a good read, you must have edited just as I started typing again, haha.

No egr but found lots of it in pipework and front mount.

We'll see what happens, if it needs stripped, it needs stripped.

You can increase capacity by buying the 2.0 pd pistons from Darkside and then re-bore. I doubt it would be financially worth it though, but it would be something new!

Alternatively you could use the hybrid version of the 2260 turbo which Darkside are currently working on...

Just always have to think of the worst outcome, then your not let down. haha.

My mate just send his rb25 away to get 2.6'd after a piston ring cracked and scored it.

Was running fine before he took it off the road too, now truck turbo and should be good for 600bhp after rebuild.

Can't wait to get a run in it. :p

Anyway, back to diesel power....

Wow, neat work ;) wish I had a spare afternoon to do something like that :)

Needs a clean, or is it going in the bin?

Been sat for about 8 months outside my unit, at the back of a demolition place, always dirty up there.

Suppose I'll start a Fabia Project thread.
