Skoda Auto news on updates for MY13

Featured Replies

Just spotted a news article on the main Skoda Auto site giving details on forthcoming changes/additions for MY13;

new Erebus 17" alloy wheels (not more sports rims :giggle: )

GSM III availability

new special editions, colours and trims

Wonder how many if any of these will get past the SUK 'stone wall' :wonder:

A nearly new/demo with pano roof would be hard to come by. Lead times aren't that bad on petrol (man/DSG) 3 months or so.

From reading the press release, this is for the entire Skoda brand not just UK. I cannot see anything relating to updates but these may come in to affect after the model year changes have taken place

I was thinking a real facelift for Yeti...

The article seems to suggest that there will be firmware upgrades available for the GSMII bluetooth module, amongst other things. Anyone have any idea how these might be obtained?

I was thinking a real facelift for Yeti...

I'm expecting that on MY14, which will be mid-2013. Four years after the currently model was released.

This year (on MY13) would be too early. That's only three years production.

The main changes coming in to play are as follows (UK market)

* Variable boot floor handle will look slightly different,

* Boot lock time delay - the boot will not lock automatically if the rest of the car is still locked,

* Columbus will display new logo, map updates can be found through diagnostics and there is a new compass display,

* AFS will not have the lengthened head light beam for motorway driving,

* GSM III and,

* Erebus alloys.

Regarding GSM III, any idea if this will be a cost option or not?

The link at the top of this thread states 'The Yeti model line can now be ordered with a 'The Yeti model line can now be ordered with a“GSM III Premium” hands-free kit which was hitherto restricted to ŠKODA’s superior model lines'

If it is a specifiable option, when can one specify it? From June 1st?

Thanks

Are there any pictures of these?

From my update it does not state that it will be a specifiable options but will be introduced in to the new model year, bringing it in line with the Superb and Octavia.

Do we know if more special editions are planned for the UK market as per this article - or are they likely to be for mainland Europe (LHD)?

Would guess that it's Europe only Weyland. The article is for changes here, there and everywhere.

Still contemplating the ESP issue?

I don't like those alloys. Spitzberg are my preference. :)

Haha! Yes, it is one thing having a track day weapon without ESP but for me I'd like my family motor to have it on just in case. Tempted to get a nearly new (or ideally new if the wait isn't too long) 1.2 Elegance/SE Plus with ESP option. Difficult to find 2nd hand with the pan roof so if my new job works out I might just treat myself to a new one

A nearly new/demo with pano roof would be hard to come by.

* AFS will not have the lengthened head light beam for motorway driving,

Can someone please explain what is the lengthened headlight beam for motorway driving? As we have agreed on here before (well, The Plumber agreed with me and so did my Skoda dealer, though someone on here kept telling me I just needed my lights adjusted, even after I assured him they had been) the bi-xenons are poor on main beam.

You seem to be saying they have the 'lengthened beam' already. Don't tell me they are going to remove some existing facility and make the main beam even worse?

I'm also wondering what "lengthened head light beam" was refering to?

Lead times aren't that bad on petrol (man/DSG) 3 months or so.

Really - Even with a pano roof?

I'll be honest and 1) never recognised this or 2) noticed this. But apparently when driving at high speeds the beam effectively lengthens. TP will probably clear this up with his infinate wisdom, but I would guess that the lights maybe angle closer to each other when driving over a certain speed?!

Had one arrive last Monday. Car was ordered mid - Feb. Elegance DSG with park assist and panoramic roof.

So. A probable face lift model for MY14 eh?

Nice :)

So if I order a new yeti in early may 2014, the likelihood is it will be MY14 and not MY13 ?

Or, knowing my luck I'll end up with the last of the old years builds :(

I don't like those alloys either. Prefer the annapura's

Hi all,

to hopefully answer this query, then it's probably more straight forward to direct you to the following Skoda publication from 2008, in reference at the time to the Superb II AFS system. I would expect the Yeti to operate in the same manner as there are quite a number of shared technologies between the two models.

Anyway I hope of help,

TP

Oh ought to add that I cannot say I've noticed all these functions with my own Monster, other than the differing amounts of cornering movement depending on speed; a lot at slow, not a lot if any at national limits and the nearside lamp being up and to the left at national speeds. Not quite sure whether the dealer has knocked something out when they adjusted the over-short main offside beam, or the brief AFS failure I suffered last year has left an unwanted legacy, despite the dealer stating NFF :wonder: as they don't appear to be quite as active as I remember when new.

Well, thanks for that. It tells us what AFS is. But it raises as many questions as it answers.

- Are we being told that the Yeti already has AFS? If so, why is it not mentioned in either the handbook or the brochure? Or is AFS just a different confusing name for what the Yeti documents call cornering lights?

- Does the MY13 announcment mean the Yeti will get AFS (with functionality that goes beyond cornering lights) for the first time, or does it mean that it will continue to have AFS but the raising of the beam at higher speeds ('Motorway regime' in the PDF) will be omitted in future?

- The explanation in that PDF is not as clear as it should be, but a close reading suggests that AFS operates only on dipped beam. Is that how others read it? If so, it is in line with all the headlamp development effort of the last decade, driven by a huge body of regulations, which focuses almost entirely on two aims:(a) making dipped beam less likely to dazzle oncoming drivers and putting a lot more light than previously to the left of the car and above it, to illuminate road signs on the verge and on unlit overhead gantries. Meanwhile, because most drivers very seldom use main beam, its effectiveness has been neglected (main beam is barely mentioned in hundreds of pages of regulations), and the light pushed to left and overhead by modern headlamps that conform to the new regulations detracts badly from long-range vision when driving fast on mainly straight roads.

It still looks to me as though this MY13 change is a retrograde step, but it probably applies only to dipped beams, which have already been legislated and regulated beyond reason, and with any luck it will make the inadequate bi-xenon main beams no worse than they already are.

If there would be FL for MY14, we'll see it in the Geneva Car Show in march 2013.

If you order a new Yeti in may 2014, you get Yeti MY15. The next year models production starts yearly in the end of May. So if you order new yeti today, you'll get MY13 Yeti before end of this year.

Thanx Finn.

My apologies, I typed 2014 but it should have been 2013.

So as I understand it, if I order a new car in may 2013 I should get a car from the new build year MY14 :)

The model year switch over for Skoda is generally first week in June, unless it's a new model or a face lift which might start in production a month or two earlier.

The Elegance Yeti and any other with the xenon light option has AFS11 as per the brochure and possibly the manual.

The changes according to the document are to stop the raising of the lights at motorway speeds as I read it. probably to do with yet more regulations.....
