Brake warning light on. no fault code in vcds - I think !

Featured Replies

Hi all,

pretty new to vcds. Am at work and colleague says she has a brake warning light that won't go away. It's in the centre of the dash. An orange circlewith three dashes wrapped around the left and right edges. Her mechanic has checked pads disks and fluid level.

VCDS says no fault on module3 abs, obdII has no fault codes. But I only got my vcds yesterdaySo not sure if I should be looking anywhere else?

At work 'till 1am so any suggestions or thoughts gratefully received.

Thanks in advance

Nick

ever considered a wiring fault ? pad wear sensor wiring might be causing it (might even be unplugged for good)

Did the mechanic check the front nearside inside pad - as that is the one with the wear sensor (if fitted). Otherwise if pads withouth a wear indicator were fitted, maybe the bit of wire used to complete the circuit has fallen out of the socket (between the shock and the caliper mounted on a small metal bracket).

Thanks guy good advice He's probably checked it but will tell her to ask her mechanic. I'm surprised that the vehicle doesn't know why it's turned on the warning lamp. or rather vcds can't tell me. Maybe I'm using it wrong ;-)

Think the low pad warning is just like a switch, doesn't go though the ecu. I know when mine had an intermittent fault if i turned the ignition off it would reset each time and only come on when driving over bumps

The pad wear sensor might have been rubbed through with lip on disc and pads might still be okay, i took my sensor out of pads and tied it back to wiring out of way. There more trouble than there worth somtimes, oh and sounds daft but have you checked brake fluid level

Low fluid should be a red light (rather than orange, iirc).

I've got a similar issue. Light has been on and off recently. Would it be red if it was the brake fluid level?

Yup that's right Amber is the pad warning

Sent from my GT-I9100. Not a Crapple!

Cheers. Just checked the fluid too and it's fine. The outside pads have got loads on them (can't see the inside), and were replaced about 8,000 ago so I'm guessing it's a dodgy sensor or cable. How long should brake pads last?
