De badged....

Featured Replies

Just removed the Fabia badge from the boot of my yellow vrs. Once I removed all the adhesive I was left with a faint 'ghost' of fabia on my paintwork where the surrounding paint had faded ever so slightly. I have tried a number of things to get it to go but can't get rid of it completely. I have treated the area with rubbing compound (carefully!), megs scratch x and t-cut. It is better than it was but still isn't perfect. I'm hesitant to do any more as I don't want to eat into the clear coat too much. Has anyone got any suggestions or product recommendations?

Cheers in advance

Joe

Machine polish the boot :)

I would but I don't have access to a machine polisher, will I do any harm carrying on with the scratch x?

Scratch X isn't particularly abrasive and is more for paint swirls, however T-Cut can be aggressive so I wouldn't go overboard with that.

I've used Meguiars Ultimate Compound, which is a medium polish, to good effect when removing residues etc - bare in mind that if you are polishing by hand you will need to work the product into the area for a good 5 minutes at a time to break the cutting compounds down and get their full effect.

If a good bit of prolonged elbow grease isn't doing the trick however then it may need to be a machine polishing job :(

It may need "feeding" with a oily glaze such as Meguiars #7, meguiars stage 2 deep crystal polish is quite similar. Have only done this to good effect on single stage paint mind. Other than that machine polishing would be the only process that would help.

Hope you get it sorted

Thanks for all the advice. To be honest it's not as bad as I thought. I have got a few people to have a look and they can't make out the outline without me prompting them so I'm going to leave it alone for now.

Thank again!

Hi Joe, I think you've nailed it in this last quote. My lad has spent many a happy hour progressively making something worse that in truth no one else can barely detect. But as the owner we do!

That would just annoy me, knowing it was still there... Is it getting to you yet?

JK I'm just winding you up

where in west yorks are you, I have a machine polisher
