CANBUS HID kit ?

Featured Replies

Did you test the socket on the car with a multimeter?

I can't remember the colours but is there a brown wire? If so I think that's the neutral and the purple/white wire is live.

Just had a look at the link you posted up -- don't fit them, and if you already have done, take them out -- it is a "canbus friendly" kit which is anything but friendly to the canbus on your car.

Look at the pictures on the listing -- the second photo shows canceller ballasts to fool the canbus. Using this kit has the potential to seriously damage your electrics, including blowing your wiper motor to bits.

You will be far better to get what we have suggested time and time over -- a NON-CANBUS kit from London COlour (currently for £25 on ebay)

So, just to be absolutely clear, Mike, it's the NON-CANBUS ones we need to buy

Once again, the NON-CANBUS ones

Okay that settles that then haha. I plugged the red into the brown and black into the black wire.

I'll send it back but before I do even though it has cancellers, shouldn't it be okay if I code the car to have xenon.... which is another issue.

Connected VCDS and could only find the option to tick bi - xenon, even after selecting bit 4 through long coding.

And my Octy is a 2010 VRS if that has anything to do with it.

I'm not sure how much clearer Mike needs to make it, the CANBUS bulbs are bad, end of, no matter what you do

Send them back and get the NON-CANBUS version

Yes Brimma I understand clearly what he was saying thank you, it was merely a thought I had last night.

Thanks Mike appreciate the advice, may call upon you're help again for the coding

It was the words "shouldn't it be OK" which led me to think you were still questioning the advice given

Well you know what they say about assumptions and jumping to conclusions

No

Google it then and you can learn something new

CBA, but thanks all the same

Malc. Not sure on how to read an above post. You've said you'll send the canbus kit back but ask if still coding is ok? Do you mean leave it coded once the halogens are back in, before installing the non canbus kit, or try the kit you have, with the cancellers, with the coding? In either case I wouldn't. The BCM is a fickle thing and needs the coding right whether it has halogens or HIDs. Sort the correct coding out when the new kit arrives. Sorry if I have misread your post!

Mike

It's okay I've re coded it for the halogen bulbs until my HID from London Colour arrive. However........do you know why it would cause my LED DRL on my Vrs to stop working when I select Bit7 on Byte 17 to acknowledge the led licence plate bulb?

In the interest of others who may have mistakenly bought the CANBUS friendly kit and for whatever reason are unable to return it, is it possible to remove or disable the capacitor?

I have never seen a set so I don't know what typically comes in the box.

Perhaps each brand is different and some more integrated than others.

Aye cut it off and rewire the ends. I'll send a post a photo in a second
