*BUMP*

Have you popped in to see Kelly, as it's possibly the easiest way to get hold off him?

Hi Mike, unfortunately I work near West Malling, start at 7 and don't finish till 5 gone and I'm away every weekend, so I just don't get the time really. All I want is a price and then I can book it in for the work. Not sure if they, I've spoken to Paul and Tracey, are not over keen on me supplying the turbo. I guess they would normally supply and fit themselves, not sure .......

Paul from KDS has called me back  , they can fit the new turbo for a good price. The only thing I need to do is to buy all the parts requied for the replacement. So ...... I now need to find out what parts are required for replacing a turbo (other than the turbo and the oil pipe that is and an oil change). Any thoughts chaps ?

Glad you have made contact.

Might be worth a new thread with a " What do i need......." heading to get a better response.

Maybe I've missed something but surely the garage who intend to fit it should know what parts he needs?!?

Unless they aren't overjoyed at the customer supplying their own parts - although given the small markup that most independents make on parts I can't see why, as long as they're getting close to their usual labour rate......

Hi all, sorry feel really bad for not updating this thread :(

The story so far, as previously mentioned I got a price for replacing the turbo on my car (me supplying the turbo) from KDS, nice guy's by the way. They asked if I could supply all the relative parts etc, fair enough.

Anyhow, I guy I work with drives an Audi, he has it serviced etc at Nick Young's in Wrotham, he suggested giving them a call just for a comparison. I spoke to Nick himself, explaining the issue with the car etc, he asked about my driving style, told him its mainly motorway work, around the 2,200 rpm range. He said, that this is my problem, apparently these type of turbos coke up when driven economically, no doubt as most people would drive them I guess. He suggested that I drive the car harder for a few weeks, this should hopefully burn the carbon deposits off the turbo and stop the vanes from sticking, if not then I should call him back and we'd go from there.

So, its been a month since that call and I've driven the car harder, still within the speed limits, just using more of the rev range in the lower gears, and in all that time I've had only a single limp mode instance, that was back in the first week of changing my driving style. I'm not saying its cured it but it has certainly helped

Well, an update nearly a year on from my last. Well the car has been suffering limp mode issues on and off but not too bad. Unfortunately on Sunday, I pulled away from a junction quite quickly and I noticed there was a big black plume of smoke I'd left behind, also the turbo started the siren noises that alot of people have had on their cars. I have also noticed this morning that there was an oil patch under the car. I must admit the car has never leaked oil before. So, all I can assume from all this is that the turbo is finally on its way out, time for me to get some prices together on replacements. I'm probably going to get an exchange turbo from Turbo Technics and then get an indy to change it for me.

Right update time, my car has been into Nick Young's at Wrotham today, they have changed the turbo and the oil feed pipe. The guy's also found that my fuel cooler was leaking, funnily enough I've been smelling diesel everytime I get out of the car for months so, this has also been changed. The car drives great, no more police siren or limp modes  . They're a top bunch of guy's and I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone wanting any work carried out on their car, many thanks guys

Now the only thing that's pee'd me off is that Sherlodge garage had not long carried out a service and only three weeks ago MOT'd the car. Perhaps I'm wrong here but, I would have thought they'd have seen the leak as there was a trail of diesel on the underside from the cooler to the back of the car ! :o  Think the next service will be done at Nick's garage.
