Jabba Re-map & D.v Booked

Yippee

Just booked my vRS in for remap & Bailey dump valve, can't wait -- but will have to 13/08/03 9:30am

What fuel guy's ??? I currently use Texaco Super Unleaded exclusively -- any benefit swapping to Optimax ???

All comments welcome -- polite ones anyway :)

Dave

At the risk of inciting a pro-Optimax lynch mob, stick with Texaco Super.

I spent 10 months and 25000 miles exclusively on SUL and Optimax in my immaculately serviced and oiled Impreza Turbo.

As I do not have proof (nor did Subaru) that inconsistent fuel (ie Optimax) had led to detonation which caused my engine to meltdown, I will only say that I am unlikely to use Optimax in any other car.

BP, Texaco or Esso SUL, yes.

Putting my experience to one side, it really was inconsistent IMHO - one tank was perky, the next no different to putting normal unleaded in - in the same weather conditions I hasten to add.

Some drivers (on all the owners web sites) will tell you its great, but you learn from your own experience.

Dave,

couldn't wait for the next group remap then?;)

There a little bit on which go-juice to use when Pete (MellowYelow) posted his remap results.

As Fab says you can only make up your own mind from experience.

I prefer the response and mpg when using Opitimax. Also in Basingstoke Optimax costs the same as SUL from other garages and in one case is 4p/litre cheaper.

My remap is tomorrow PM; Dave (DaveU) is in the morning. Will post my results/view etc tomorrow evening or Thursday morining.

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s was thining about getting a new DV myself but what I gather Mike at Jabba will tell you if you need one anyway.

So if you are lucky it might have cooled down and started raining by then ? :)

I arrived (early) just after 12, they started about 1.20 and I finally got away at 4.50pm. If you get bored waiting (which is possible, but all in a good cause!) try counting the number of times Mike puts it on the rolling road. Do I hear 15, 20 ... ;)

As some will know, I work at an Audi dealership - and I'm sick of having to arrange for my technician's to come off a job to replace a dv valve -- we keep a minimum of 5 in stock at any time.

And as the bulk of these seem to 225 TT's/S3's and the fact the vRS will be in the region of this has led me to spend the extra mullah.....not expecting any performance gain's from it just pure reliability.

After all it would be waste not to use the extra poke now wouldn't it. ;):)

Oh and as for waiting for the next group remap -- I didn't realise there was one, plus it was very much a spur of the moment thing to finally book it this morning.....after a pleasant suprise from my bank ie they owe me

Rob,

will try the "on-off the rolling road" game. Will compare notes.;)

Heard about the prospective rain but didn't want to say anything to jinx it.;) Mind you it might be interesting onthe way home in the wet.

Dave,

I arranged a group remap and got a 10% discount for everyone. However as you can see we maxed out our quote of 10 cars for this year.

Will try and arrange another group remap next year (it is aloooooong way away) if there's enough people. I reckon from peoples interest so far that we'll get the minimum of 5.

I'll have a chat with Mike tomorrow and see what he says about the DV.

Cheers.

Adrian.

And let it be noted that I was amongst them :D

It was noted Q!:D

IIRC, we tried, in vain, to persuade you to get the remap done this time round. ;) You managed, valiantly, to hold off. Maybe SWMBO was standing behind you with a rather large blunt object??

Is anybody who is seriously interested in getting their car Jabba'd really going to wait until next year just to benefit from a 10% discount? I for one wouldn't... :(

Adrian

I used the money I saved (on your hard work in getting a group discount!) on a dump valve.

The engine certainly sounds different now (although some of this may just be due to the remap).

I bought the new DV purely for reliability - as I do not want the original to fail (especially during the warranty period - in case the dealer starts poking around to see what caused the failure!!!)

I agree with Denis -- I WANT IT NOW !!!!!! :; :)

Denis, the reason I am holding out is because of current warranty issues with not-so-mod-friendly dealer. In a years time my warranty will be nearing its end and I will have to renegotiate insurance as well.

Understood, Q. I'm not sure how mod-friendly my local dealer is, nor the 3 others which are options I would rather not use...:(

If its anything like mine - not very

BBC radio Devon has a moaning and groaning show from 12 noon, and they're talking about car warranties. Guess what I've emailed to the show... :D
